Bar rejected my ID - was it obvious or just bad luck?

Used my new ID for the first time last night and it got rejected at a bar downtown. The bouncer looked at it for maybe 5 seconds, did the bend test, and just handed it back saying "I can't accept this." He didn't make a scene or call the cops or anything, just gave it back and told me to leave. I was completely sober and tried to act natural so I don't think my behavior was the issue. Now I'm paranoid that my ID is obviously fake and I'm scared to try using it anywhere else. Or maybe I just got unlucky with a really strict bouncer? Some context: - It's an Ohio ID from a well-reviewed vendor - I've used it successfully at 2 gas stations to buy beer - The bar was pretty busy, it was Friday night around 11pm - I'm 19 but the ID says I'm 23 - I was dressed normally, not trying too hard Questions: 1. When a bouncer rejects an ID without explanation, is it usually because it's obviously fake or are they sometimes just being extra cautious? 2. Should I try a different less strict place or is my ID compromised? 3. Could it be the lighting at that specific bar made it look fake? I spent good money on this and I'm trying to figure out if I need to order from a better vendor or if I just need to avoid that particular bar.

Honestly, it might just be bad luck with the bend test—that's the biggest giveaway for most of these. Before you invest in trying outlandish stuff, make sure you're doing the basics right. A poor signature background or weird lighting setup shadows on your home photo can make it fail even if it's a quality card. For getting started, though, I'd read the sticky before panic-ordering again; it covers a ton of noob questions like this. Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong in person.

Honestly, it happens to the best of us. Could be the bend test—if the material's off, that's a dead giveaway. Forgetting something basic, though? That stings. Before your next attempt, I'd recommend checking a step-by-step tutorial if you haven't already; getting started the right way matters. And yeah, lighting setup shadows can wreck even a clean ID photo if you're taking it at home. I'd try a different bar next time and work on that signature background—it matters more than you think.

Could be either. Some bouncers are super strict and reject everything. Others only catch obvious fakes. What did the bouncer say? Did they point out specific issues?

Don't take it personally - sometimes bouncers are just being extra careful. If you can, try different places. Some are way more lenient than others.

Hard to say without more info. Some bars are just really strict. If the ID quality is good, might just be bad luck with a thorough bouncer.
