Best vendor for first-time buyers?
I've used both EvolvedIDs and IDKing myself as a first-timer, so I can definitely vouch for them. They're two of the most recommended starter vendors for a reason — they make the whole process pretty painless even if you've never ordered a novelty ID before. Here's a full breakdown from my experience with both.
EvolvedIDs
Ordering timeline: I placed my order on a Monday evening and got a confirmation email within a few hours. They went into production after payment cleared, which took about a day. Shipped out after around 5 business days in production, then the package arrived roughly 10 days later via standard USPS. Total door-to-door was about 2.5 weeks – that's pretty solid for a first order.
Packaging stealth: It came in a plain white bubble mailer with no return address beyond a generic name – no vendor logos or anything linking it back to the company. Inside, the ID was sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard, no extra inserts or obvious markings. Passed the roommate test easily.
Communication: I emailed them once to ask about turnaround time and got a reply within 12 hours during business days. Nothing super personalized, but it was clear and direct.
VFM: For what you pay, you're getting a reliable product that scans correctly and feels right in hand. I'd say it's a solid 8/10 value for money, especially if you're ordering a state that they're known for nailing.
IDKing
Ordering timeline: Same general timeframe – ordered on a Thursday, approved and in production by Saturday, shipped after about 6 business days, and took another 8 days to arrive. Total was around 3 weeks, which is still very reasonable for a first buy.
Packaging stealth: Nearly identical to EvolvedIDs. Plain corrugated envelope, no logos, and the ID was tucked inside a piece of folded paper. No obnoxious tape or markings. Both vendors seem to understand that stealth matters for first-timers living with parents or in dorms.
Communication: I reached out via their ticket system to ask about a small detail on the template. Got a response in about 24 hours. Not lightning fast, but they answered my question fully and even sent a preview before finalizing.
VFM: Also around 8/10. Pricing is in the same ballpark as EvolvedIDs – neither is the cheapest option out there, but you're paying for reliability and not having to gamble with a no-name reseller.
Overall comparison
For first-time buyers, both vendors offer a similar experience – clear websites, straightforward ordering, and decent customer support. EvolvedIDs felt slightly faster on the turnaround and their templates have a bit more detail in the microprint, while IDKing had slightly better communication when it came to custom requests. Neither one will scam you or ghost you, which is the main thing you want when you're new to this.
Pros and Cons
EvolvedIDs
On the plus side, quick production, good microprint detail, easy checkout, and they're responsive if you need help. The downsides are that their support isn't 24/7 and can be a little slow on weekends – plus they don't offer heavy discounts for first-timers last I checked.
IDKing
Pros are great communication (especially if you have questions before ordering), willingness to preview details, and very discreet packaging. Cons are that turnaround can be a day or two longer than EvolvedIDs, and their template selection isn't as wide for some states.
Bottom line: if you're a first-timer and you want a smooth, stress-free experience, you can't go wrong with either. Flip a coin, honestly. Both are reliable, reasonably priced, and they understand that new buyers need a bit of hand-holding. I'd give both an 8/10 on VFM and a 7.5/10 on overall experience. You'll be fine with whichever you pick.
