BrightForge IDs worth the wait? Shipping notice after 11 days

posted by joface123 10 months ago 906 views 4 comments
Finally got a shipping notification from BrightForge after 11 days of silence. Ordered two NYs and a PA. Form was smooth but the lack of updates had me nervous. Tracking shows label created and moving. Anyone used them recently—do they land close to ETA and how is the laminate quality?

Used them last month. Corners were a hair rounder than my real ID but scanners didn’t care. You should be fine.

Good to know. Tracking just left origin sort so I guess they are moving.

They batch print on Sundays so the midweek silence is normal. My NY had crisp UV and the barcode scanned at a liquor store.

So I finally pulled the trigger on BrightForge and figured I'd share my experience for anyone on the fence. I know timelines are always the biggest question around here, so here's how it went down.

Ordering & Timeline
Placed my order for a PA on a Wednesday, got the order confirmation within a few hours. Payment went through fine with BTC. QC pics took about a week—they looked solid, no major errors I could spot. Then the shipping notice hit my inbox exactly 11 days after the order date, which matches the title of this thread. After it shipped, tracking showed it landed at Chicago customs on day 9 of transit (so roughly day 20 from order). Customs took their sweet 2 days, then it was out for delivery. All in, I had it in my hands around 23-24 days after ordering. Not lightning fast, but within the expected window for this tier of vendor.

Packaging & Stealth
Came in a plain bubble mailer with no obvious markings. Return address was a generic street name, nothing that screams "novelty." Inside, the ID was sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard, no extra filler. Standard domestic-level stealth—nothing fancy but gets the job done. No smell or crinkling issues.

Communication
I reached out once during QC to ask about a color adjustment. Got a reply within maybe 18 hours, polite but not overly chatty. They answered my question directly and that was it. No fluff, no hand-holding, but also no ghosting. For the price point, I'd say the communication is fair—you're not paying for white-glove support.

ID Quality
The PA itself looks pretty good at first glance. Colors are accurate, microprint is readable under a loupe, and the raised text feels passable—not super pronounced but definitely there. The holograms catch light correctly and the back overlay matches what I've seen on real PA IDs. The one thing that stood out to me though: the laminate has a slightly glossy sheen compared to a real PA. It's not super obvious in dim light, but under a desk lamp or direct sunlight it stands out a bit. That said, I ran it through a basic swipe test at a convenience store and it passed no problem. Also tried it at a bar with a bouncer who just glanced at it, and no issues. I haven't pushed it at a high-end club yet, but for casual use it's holding up fine.

VFM Rating
With the wait time and the minor laminate gloss, I'd give BrightForge a 7/10 on value for money. The price was reasonable (not the cheapest, not the most expensive), and the quality is solid for the cost. If you absolutely need something that'll pass a deep inspection (UV light, bend test, etc.) you might want to look elsewhere, but for everyday carry and average bouncers it's a solid pick.

Pros & Cons
On the plus side, the microprint detail is good, colors and feel are accurate, and it passed a swipe test and casual visual checks. Chicago customs only took two days, and the packaging is stealthy with no vendor names. The downsides? The laminate is a bit glossier than a real PA, the 11-day wait for shipping notice felt long, communication is minimal (don't expect daily updates), and I haven't tested UV yet so I can't vouch for that.

Overall, if you're in no rush and need a decent mid-range ID for basic use, BrightForge is worth the wait. Just don't expect perfection under a bright light.
