Dropped a card on concrete and got a hairline crack running about 4mm from one corner. Spent a week testing repair approaches before finding one that actually works for small cracks. Here is what I tried.
What does not work
Super glue (cyanoacrylate): wicks into the crack easily but dries white and visible. The repaired area looked worse than the crack. Also slightly cloudy effect on the card surface adjacent to the crack from the fumes.
Nail polish: similar wicking problem, also slightly too thick for a hairline crack, left a visible ridge. The color-matching clear nail polish approach is a common suggestion online but does not produce clean results under close inspection.
Heat: applying gentle heat from a hairdryer to try to re-fuse the crack just slightly widened it in my case. Would not recommend for cracks that have already opened.
What worked for a small crack
UV-cure adhesive (sold as "glass repair" kits for windshield chips) applied with a pin tip. The adhesive is liquid enough to fully fill the crack by capillary action, and cures clear and hard under a UV light in about 30 seconds. After curing, carefully scrape any excess adhesive from the surface with a razor blade held flat, then polish the area gently with a microfiber cloth.
The result on my card was nearly invisible under normal light and only faintly visible under close inspection at an angle. The structural integrity of the corner was restored — the card no longer flexed at the crack point.
When repair is not viable
A crack that passes through the holographic overlay or through the barcode area cannot be repaired to a usable standard. The overlay will show the crack line regardless of fill material, and a crack through the barcode makes scanning unreliable. For these situations, contact the vendor about replacement — a crack from normal handling in the first few weeks is often covered by their guarantee.
