Do I type my signature or upload a picture of it?

Hey, welcome to the club. I was super nervous placing my first order too, but after a bit of trial and error I got it to work just like you described – signed on paper, snapped a pic, and everything came out clean. Since you asked for tips, I'll share what I've figured out so you don't have to learn the hard way.

Step‑by‑step for the signature photo:

First, grab a plain piece of white printer paper – no lines, no watermarks. Use a normal ballpoint pen (blue or black, doesn't matter much, but avoid gel pens because they can bleed or reflect oddly). Sign your name with consistent pressure; don't press too hard or too light. Then take the photo with your phone's rear camera, not the front selfie camera – the rear lens has better resolution. Place the paper flat on a table under natural daylight, no direct sunlight. Keep the phone parallel to the paper to avoid keystoning. Use the highest resolution setting you've got – at least 12MP is ideal, but 8MP works fine in a pinch. Take a few shots, check that the signature fills about a third of the frame, and make sure there's no glare or shadow. Upload the best one straight from your phone – don't crop, don't filter, don't rotate. The template will handle the rest.

Key terms to know:

You'll see phrases like "sig curve" or "vector trace" – that's just how the line thickness and shape of your signature get translated. "DPI" (dots per inch) matters if you're scanning; for photos, anything above 300 DPI equivalent is fine. "Bleed" is when ink spreads on the paper, which can make the sig look fat – so avoid thick gel or marker pens. "Crop ratio" is how your photo gets fitted onto the ID, so keep the signature centered with some empty space around it.

Safety checklist (don't skip these):

Use a plain white background – no colorful desks or patterned paper. Get lighting from two sides, like a desk lamp plus a window, to kill shadows. Don't use flash – it creates hotspots and washes out the ink. Hold the phone steady; if you've got shaky hands, prop it on a book. Take the photo in landscape orientation if your template expects that (check the order form's instructions). Double‑check the file size – keep it under 10MB, most uploaders reject huge files. And do not edit the photo in any app – not even to adjust brightness. Upload it raw.

Common mistakes that mess up first orders:

I see a lot of newbies sign on lined notebook paper – the lines get picked up and look terrible on the final ID. Another one: using a fountain pen or a sharpie, which either bleeds or creates uneven thickness. Some people take the photo in a dark room and then try to "brighten" it – that introduces noise and ruins the trace. Also, don't sign too close to the edge of the paper; leave at least an inch of margin so the camera can focus evenly. And please, please don't take the photo with the paper held in your hand – it'll be slightly bent and the signature will warp.

If you follow these steps, you'll get the same "worked great" result I did. It's honestly easy once you get the first one right. Good luck with your order!

Use a black pen on white paper if doing handwritten

You can do either. Handwritten looks more natural imo
