First time ordering - vendor experience recap

posted by cumandstuffisfun 3 months ago 507 views 4 comments

Just wrapped up my first full ordering cycle from placing the order to actually having the novelty ID in hand. I know there are a ton of newbies floating around here with the same nerves I had, so I figured I'd drop a detailed recap of how everything went down. Hopefully this helps someone else who's on the fence or just starting to research vendors.

Ordering Timeline:
I placed the order on a Tuesday evening, using the standard checkout process. Payment was done through the usual crypto route — took about 15 minutes for the transaction to confirm on the blockchain. The vendor sent an automated confirmation within an hour of the payment clearing, which was reassuring. Then came the waiting game. Status updates were pretty sporadic — I'd check the order portal every couple of days and see it had moved from "processing" to "in production" after about 4 days. That "in production" status lasted for a solid week, which had me a little anxious, but I figured they were taking the time to get the details right. Shipped status popped up on day 11, and the tracking number was provided via the portal (no email notification, I had to check manually). Domestic shipping took another 6 days, so total time from order placement to delivery was 17 days. Not lightning fast, but acceptable for a first order.

Packaging Stealth:
The envelope arrived in a plain padded manila mailer with a printed return address that looked like a generic residential name. No obvious red flags on the outside. Inside, the ID was sandwiched between two pieces of cardboard, wrapped in a thin layer of bubble wrap. No vacuum sealing or mylar bags, just the cardboard and bubble. The ID itself was tucked into a small plastic sleeve. For a domestic shipment, the stealth level was moderate — not overkill, but enough to survive casual handling without bending or scratching. If customs were involved, I'd want more layers, but for domestic it did the job.

Communication Response Speed:
I reached out via the ticket system once, around day 8, just to ask a generic question about the timeline. Got a response within 28 hours, which felt slow but acceptable. The reply was polite and straightforward — no fluff, just confirmed it was still in production and expected to ship the following week. That turned out to be accurate. I didn't try email or Wickr/Telegram, so can't speak to those channels. Overall, communication gets a 3 out of 5 for speed, but a 4 out of 5 for honesty — they didn't overpromise or lie about tracking updates.

VFM (Value for Money) Rating:
I paid a mid-range price for this, not the cheapest option out there but not the premium tier either. Given the overall quality of the finished piece, I'd rate the VFM a solid 7.5 out of 10. You're definitely paying for a decent product, but the wait time and lack of proactive communication knock it down from a higher score. If you're on a tight budget, you might find cheaper alternatives, but if you want something that passes a basic glance and feels substantial in hand, this is a fair trade-off.

Specific Pros and Cons:
Pros: Payment process was smooth — no hiccups with the wallet address or amount. The final piece itself is solid: the PVC material feels genuine, the lamination is even, and the microprint is crisp under magnification. The raised text has decent depth and doesn't feel painted on. Colors match my reference photos closely, and the back overlay is properly applied. Also, the vendor didn't ghost or go dark, which is always a fear for first-timers. They delivered what was promised, even if the updates were sparse.

Cons: The sporadic status updates are frustrating — I'd rather get a "still working on it" automated email every 3 days than have to log into the portal and guess. The packaging could use an extra layer of stealth, like a flattened shipping box inside the mailer to add rigidity. Also, the turnaround time of 17 days is on the longer side compared to some other reports I've seen in this forum for similar products. One minor nitpick: the signature panel on the back had a slight texture inconsistency near the bottom edge — not noticeable unless you look closely, but worth mentioning for perfectionists.

Overall, as a first-time experience, I'm satisfied. I got what I paid for, it wasn't a scam, and the novelty ID meets the minimum bar for casual use. I'd order again if needed, but I'd probably look into a slightly faster option if I'm in a hurry. Feel free to ask any specific questions — happy to share more details if it helps the community.

What state did you go with for your first piece? Just curious — I ended up picking a neighboring state for mine and it came out pretty solid. Always helps to hear what other people chose for their first try, y'know?

Yeah, I honestly appreciate you taking the time to write this up. It's really helpful for folks like me who're still figuring out the process — seeing someone walk through it step by step makes it way less intimidating, tbh. Stuff like turnaround time and packaging details? That's gold for first-timers. I'm definitely bookmarking this for reference.

Hey, welcome! Glad your first experience was a good one. Honestly, it's always a relief when a vendor actually delivers on their word, especially on that first order. Hope the quality matched what you were expecting too.

Yeah, sporadic updates are pretty standard in this game. Honestly, most of these vendors are small operations — not Amazon. I've had orders where I didn't hear anything for a few days, then suddenly got tracking. You just gotta be patient and not panic if you don't get a reply right away.
