First timer - what do I need?
Read the FAQ first, answers most questions. Then just follow the steps
Hey everyone, first timer here – been lurking for a while and I've read a bunch of guides but still feeling kinda overwhelmed. There's so much to get right, so I figured I'd post what I've picked up so far and see if you all can fill in the gaps. Honest advice appreciated.
The one thing I keep seeing everywhere is triple check all your info before submitting. Seriously, typos are a pain. One wrong digit on the address or a swapped birth year and you're stuck with a dud. Here's the checklist I'm planning to follow, more or less:
First, gather your template – make sure it's a current one that matches your state's latest design. Look for details like microprint lines, ghost images, and UV patterns. An outdated template will get called out fast. Next, fill in your personal details exactly as they'd appear on a real state-issued ID: correct capitalization, no weird spaces, and the exact expiration date logic for your state (like 21st birthday plus 4 years for under-21, 8 years for over-21). Then prep your photo – white background, neutral expression, no glasses glare, crop it to the right aspect ratio. Since most vendors use a Photoshop template, put your photo layer on top and blend it naturally with the background. Finally, double-check every field. Print a draft or zoom in, read every line out loud, and get a friend to look it over if you can. Common gotchas: mixing up month and day in the DOB, fat-fingering the zip code, or forgetting to match the signature style to the license class.
You'll hear some key terms around here – template is the layered PSD file that mimics the real ID layout; lamination is the plastic overlay (some states shiny, others matte); UV refers to invisible ink patterns that glow under blacklight, often state seals or "VOID" marks; and scanning is how bars and clubs verify the magstripe or barcode data.
Before you order, there's a safety checklist: use a secure payment method like BTC or something that doesn't expose your real info; never share your real full name with the vendor – use a made-up first or middle name if possible; ship to a safe drop or a friend's place, not your primary address; and don't post your order details publicly because scammers love targeting newbies who reveal too much.
Common mistakes to avoid? Rushing the order form – one missing field can delay or cancel the whole thing. Using a font that doesn't match the state – always check the official DMV samples online. Forgetting the state's specific signature requirements (some states want cursive, others block letters). And assuming the vendor will catch your errors – they won't. You're responsible for the final proof.
That's my current game plan. Anything else you wish you knew when you were first starting? I'm all ears before I pull the trigger.
New here, looking to place my first order. What all do I need to have ready?
