Welcome! Honestly the photo trips up most people. If you're taking ID photo at home, watch your lighting setup — shadows across your face will get you rejected fast. Soft, even light facing you, no flash glare.

And yeah, read the sticky before posting a noob question, saves everyone time. Good luck!

Hey, welcome to the forum! I remember being in your shoes and stressing over every little detail. The photo is honestly one of the most important parts because if it's off, everything else falls apart. So let me break it down for you step by step — I've seen plenty of newbies mess this up, so pay attention.

First, get your background right. You want a plain, solid-color background. White or light gray are the safest bets because they give good contrast and don't create weird color casts when the ID is printed. No patterns, no textured walls, no curtains with stripes. A lot of people use a piece of poster board taped flat against a wall — works perfectly. The key thing here is "clean separation" — your face should pop clearly from the background without any lines or shadows behind you.

Next, nail the lighting. Good lighting means even, diffused light across your whole face. Avoid overhead lights that cast harsh shadows under your nose and chin. Stand facing a window on an overcast day — that's "soft window light" and it's your best friend. You want what's called flat lighting — minimal contrast so every detail of your face is visible, no dark
