Georgia peach hologram — quality check notes

Ordered two Georgia cards from different vendors specifically to compare the peach hologram element — one of the more distinctive state holograms I have seen. Here is what I found.

What the Georgia hologram looks like

Georgia driver's licenses feature a holographic peach design as part of the state-themed overlay. The peach element is part of a larger OVD overlay and should shift color and reveal different aspects of the design at different viewing angles. Under direct light, the peach shape is clearly recognizable. As the card tilts, the design reveals additional elements within the hologram layers.

Vendor A comparison

The first card included the peach element in the correct location with visible color shift on tilt. The shape was recognizable as the intended design. Color transition was fairly clean. Under direct light with the card flat, the hologram appeared as expected. The main weakness was a slightly lower holographic brilliance compared to a genuine Georgia card — the shift was present but less vivid, as if the OVD material was a lower-grade film.

Vendor B comparison

The second card showed the peach element but the shape was slightly distorted — the image appeared compressed horizontally compared to the genuine design. The color shift was present but the specific colors it transitioned through were different from the genuine card. This is a significant quality miss that would be visible in a direct comparison with a genuine Georgia ID, though it would pass a casual check by someone unfamiliar with the specific design.

Overall assessment

Neither card matched a genuine Georgia license perfectly under detailed hologram examination. Vendor A was closer. For practical use at standard verification checkpoints, both cards pass on the presence and color-shifting nature of the holographic element. For detailed security feature examination, the differences from genuine are visible. Georgia is a state worth asking vendors specifically about their hologram sourcing before ordering.

That's good to hear — I've been on the fence about pulling the trigger on one of these. The ghost image being crisp is usually the first thing I check too, since so many of these have lazy holograms that ruin the whole effect. Did you run the PDF417 scanner over it? If that passes scan without errors, I'd consider it a solid buy. I might grab one now and give it the same treatment whether to hit it with UV or not.

Just got mine in yesterday and honestly the hologram quality is way better than I expected for the price. The ghost image on mine is crisp, not one of those lazy holograms where everything looks like a blurry smudge. I hit it with my 365nm UV light too and the state seal UV bleeds nicely, no weird dark patches. Overall it passes my vibe check — not perfect, but for a novelty piece it’ll hold up fine unless someone scrutinizes it hard.
