Long term durability update - advice needed

Bouncer used a flashlight on my ID last night. Checked the edges and everything. Passed without issues

Yeah so I finally got around to doing a proper long-term durability check on mine. It's been about six months of regular use – nothing crazy, just bars and a couple of gas station runs here and there. I was worried about that flashlight test for delamination too, but honestly the hologram overlay hasn't lifted or bubbled at all. The way they built it is key – it's actually bonded into the PVC rather than just sitting on top, which makes a huge difference. I've seen cheaper ones where the laminate starts peeling at the edges after just a few weeks, especially if you keep it in a wallet or card slot that bends slightly.

The ghost image clarity is still pretty sharp. That second, fainter image in the state seal didn't fade or blur from the heat of being in a wallet or from the occasional time I left it in the car. It's not like that deep etched stuff you'd see on a real state issue, but the registration is decent – no misalignment or double-vision effect. You can still catch the light at the right angle and see the smaller text in the ghost layer, which is a good benchmark for quality. Some of the cheaper laminates lose that contrast after a few months, but mine stayed crisp.

Perforation pattern quality was another thing I was honestly nervous about. After carrying it around for a while, the micro-perf holes – the state outline or whatever pattern they use – haven't gotten clogged or flattened out. Sometimes the holes can close up if the card material is too soft, but the PVC they used here seems to be a harder stock that keeps the perforations clean. I even held it up to a bright LED and the light passes through each hole consistently, no ragged edges. That's a big tell for scanner tests because a scanner reads the light transmission through those holes as part of the authentication check.

UV detail accuracy also held up surprisingly well – I was impressed. I hit it with a 365nm light and the state-specific UV art (the capitol building overlay and the repeating text) still pops bright with no fading. The ink isn't peeling or yellowing from exposure to alcohol or hand oils, which is a common issue if the UV printing wasn't sealed properly. The ghost image even glows faintly under UV, which honestly a lot of budget IDs don't get right.

Scanner tests – I've run it through a couple different models, the kind that decode the barcode and PDF417. No issues there either. The 1D barcode scans on the first pass. The 2D barcode decodes all the encoded data correctly – name, DOB, address, ID number all match the printed text. The laminate thickness doesn't interfere with the scanner's laser, which can happen if the overlay is too thick or has an off-gassing bubble. So yeah, long story short, it's still passing fine at the register and even at a few places that swipe through a reader.

So overall, the flashlight delamination test was a good initial check, but I'd also suggest running a corner peel test and a heat gun test (from a distance, just to see if the layers separate) if you're planning on using it for more than a few months. Mine's held up pretty nicely, so yeah, I'm pretty confident in the construction quality.

The edges are sealed properly now. Used to be a weak point
