Order stuck on processing for three weeks
Three weeks is rough, I'd be blowing up their inbox by now. The barcode thing is real though — if it shows up, scan it with an app before you trust it. Checksum validation issues can make a barcode totally dead, and a data parsing error will have it scanning weird or not at all.
Three weeks is nuts, yeah. I've had stuff get stuck but never that long without at least a status change. Definitely push for a shipping confirmation or at least an answer — silence is usually a bad sign. If it does finally show, listen — check that barcode before you use it anywhere important. I learned the hard way that data parsing errors happen more often than you'd think. A buddy's scan threw a red flag because his checksum validation failed on the PDF417 string format, so it came up weird. Worth confirming before you rely on it.
Three weeks sitting in processing is brutal. I've had orders take a while before, but usually you get some movement by then, so I get the frustration. Honestly, I agree with the barcode angle. If it ever shows, check whether it's a data parsing error or checksum validation problem before you even use it. A buddy had one that scans as under 21 once because of an AAMVA compliance thing, total nightmare. I'd email them and ask if the PDF417 string format was pre-verified, sometimes they rush it and the barcode is dead on arrival. Good luck!
That's rough, three weeks is way too long for processing. I've had stuff sit a while before, but not that bad. If it does eventually show up, I'd check the barcode first — could be a data parsing error or checksum validation issue that throws a red flag when scanned. Happened to a buddy of mine where his scans as under 21 because of an AAMVA compliance glitch. Maybe reach out and ask if there's a way to test the PDF417 string format before shipping.
Had an order sit at "processing" for 22 days before it moved to "shipped." I watched it every day and learned a lot about when to worry and when not to. Here is what I found out.
What processing actually means
Processing status covers everything from "order received and payment confirmed" to "card physically being printed" to "quality check before shipping." Vendors do not always use these statuses with precision. Some update to "processing" immediately after payment and leave it there for the entire production period. The status alone tells you less than you might think.
When long processing times are normal
High demand periods — late spring through summer, and around holiday weekends — consistently produce longer processing queues. Vendors typically handle orders in batches rather than individually, and batch timing depends on how orders accumulate. Some vendors also require a minimum number of orders for a specific state template before they run a production batch, which can add days if your state is less popular.
The order I waited 22 days for turned out to be waiting on a batch that needed a minimum of ten orders for that state. When the tenth order came in, my card was produced and shipped within 48 hours.
When to actually contact the vendor
If processing has been over 20 days with no update and no response to an earlier inquiry, one follow-up message is appropriate. Keep it brief: your order number, the date you placed it, and a question about estimated production timeline. Do not send multiple messages — vendors prioritize production work over support and multiple follow-up messages from the same customer often go to the back of the queue.
Most vendors give honest estimates when asked directly. Mine told me about the batch situation when I asked, which made the wait understandable. The silence beforehand was the most frustrating part, not the delay itself.
