Payment confirmation stuck — what to check
Yeah I've hit that exact thing. If the PDF417 string format is even one field off, checksum validation fails silently and the whole thing hangs. First thing I'd do is pull the raw string and verify it's passing a proper parsing check before the gateway ever touches it.
Also worth confirming AAMVA compliance on the encode side — a malformed header will kill it faster than the bank ever could. Usually it's the barcode, not the payment flow.

Any sign the payment page just hung after submit? I've seen it where the barcode is dead — literally won't scan — because of a bad PDF417 string format, which throws a red flag on the gateway side. Check for a data parsing error or failed checksum validation before blaming the bank.

Had a Bitcoin payment show zero confirmations for four hours after sending. The vendor's order system showed payment pending and would not advance to production without confirmed payment. Here is the diagnostic process I went through.
Step 1: Verify the transaction is broadcast
Check a blockchain explorer (mempool.space for Bitcoin) by searching for your sending wallet address or the transaction ID your wallet displayed. If the transaction appears there, it has been broadcast to the network and is visible to miners. If it does not appear, the transaction never left your wallet — try rebroadcasting from your wallet app.
Step 2: Check the fee
If the transaction is visible in the mempool but shows no confirmations after 30 minutes, the fee is almost certainly below what miners are currently accepting. Mempool.space shows the current minimum fee rate for transactions expected to confirm within 1 block, 6 blocks, and so on. Compare your transaction's fee rate (shown in sat/vByte on the transaction detail page) against the minimum for 1-block confirmation.
Step 3: CPFP or RBF to accelerate
If your wallet supports Replace-By-Fee (RBF), you can rebroadcast the same transaction with a higher fee, effectively replacing it in the mempool. If not, Child-Pays-For-Parent (CPFP) involves sending a new transaction that spends the unconfirmed change output of the stuck transaction with a high enough fee to incentivize miners to confirm both together.
Not all wallet apps support these. BlueWallet and Electrum both support RBF natively. If yours does not, you may need to wait for the transaction to be dropped from the mempool (typically 72 to 144 hours) and then resend with a higher fee.
Notifying the vendor
Send the vendor the transaction ID and a note that the payment is pending with a low fee. Most vendors will hold your order status rather than canceling during a mempool delay once you have communicated the situation. Do not let it sit silently — notify them within a few hours of identifying the problem.
