Yeah, honestly I've been through this more times than I care to admit. That classic “payment pending” screen just sitting there for hours — frustrating as hell. Usually it's a few hours max like you said, but the real variable is how congested the blockchain is at that moment. If you're sending during a big NFT drop or when the mempool is backed up, that “max” can stretch into half a day or more. The main symptom? Your transaction shows up in the wallet as unconfirmed, and the confirmations counter just won't budge. On the vendor's end, they won't mark the order as paid until they see enough confirmations, so you're stuck in limbo.

So here's what I'd do: first, grab the transaction ID (TXID) from your wallet and plug it into a block explorer like Etherscan or Blockchair. That'll tell you exactly what's happening — is it stuck because of low fees, or is it just waiting in the queue? If the gas price you set is pretty far below the current network average, your transaction's probably sitting at the back of the line. Some wallets let you bump the fee via RBF (replace-by-fee) — really useful if you've got that option enabled. If not, you might have to wait it out, or in some cases use a CPFP (child-pays-for-parent) technique where you send a new transaction with a high fee that spends one of the stuck outputs, encouraging miners to confirm both together. The actual fix here is almost always patience if the fee was reasonable — but if you see it's still pending after 6+ hours and the network's quiet, something might be wrong with the receiving address.

To avoid this next time: always check current network congestion before you send — sites like GasNow or EthGasStation give you a real-time estimate. I personally set my gas a bit above the average, especially for ID orders where timing matters. Also, make sure your wallet has RBF toggled on by default, it's a lifesaver. If the vendor provides a specific fee recommendation, follow it — don't try to cheap out on a few cents because that's exactly how you end up watching a pending payment for 12 hours. Bottom line: a few hours is normal, anything beyond that means you should take a look at the block explorer. Hope yours clears soon.
