Photo requirements - what am I doing wrong?

posted by Crackhead99 10 months ago 913 views 6 comments
I'm trying to take a photo for my ID order but keep getting it wrong according to the vendor's photo checker tool. It keeps saying my photo doesn't meet requirements. What I'm doing: - Taking photo against white wall - Using phone camera with good lighting - Neutral expression, no glasses - Head centered in frame But it still says "background not uniform" or "lighting inconsistent". What am I missing? Should I pay for a professional photo service or is there a trick to doing this at home? Any photo tips would be super helpful!

Don't use a wall - walls have shadows and texture. Hang a white bedsheet and stand about 3 feet away from it. Use natural lighting from a window, no flash.

I had the same problem. The trick is to take the photo during daytime with indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight creates harsh shadows. Overcast days are actually perfect.

Make sure your shoulders are square to the camera and you're looking straight ahead, not slightly up or down. Phone should be at eye level.

Also don't smile too much - real ID photos are pretty neutral. Slight smile is ok but not full teeth showing.

Some vendors offer photo editing services for like $15 extra. Might be worth it if you keep having issues. They'll fix the background and lighting for you.

The bedsheet idea is genius! I'll try that tomorrow during the day. Thanks everyone!
