Photo upload failing
Try a different browser if it keeps failing
Yeah, I’ve run into this a bunch of times. The photo upload just hangs or gives a generic “upload failed” message with no real explanation. Sometimes it’ll get stuck at like 90% and then silently drop the file. Super frustrating when you’ve got the right template and everything.
What worked for me – and what usually fixes it for most people – is clearing the browser cache and cookies. But let me give you the full rundown of how I troubleshoot this so you don’t waste time like I did.
Symptoms: You select the photo, the progress bar starts moving, then stops or shows an error. Or you get no error at all, the page just refreshes and the photo isn’t there. Sometimes it only happens with certain browsers (Chrome tends to cache aggressively).
Troubleshooting steps I go through: First, check the file size – some places have a limit around 2–5 MB. If it’s too big, crop or resize it. Then make sure the format is right (JPEG or PNG almost always works, avoid HEIC or WebP). Next, try a different browser or an incognito/private window – if that works, it’s definitely a cache issue. Also, check the browser console (F12 > Console tab) for any JavaScript errors. Sometimes cached scripts cause conflicts with the uploader.
The fix: Clear your browser cache and site data. In Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear browsing data, then select “Cached images and files” and “Cookies and other site data”, set time range to “All time”, and clear it. After that, restart the browser completely. On Firefox it’s pretty similar under Privacy & Security.
Prevention advice: Get in the habit of clearing the cache every couple of weeks if you’re regularly uploading IDs. Also, avoid using browser extensions that mess with JavaScript or images – they can interfere mid-upload. And if you’re on a shared computer, always use incognito mode for any ID-related uploads.
My photo keeps failing to upload. Getting an error message. What should I try?
