Photo upload failing

My photo keeps failing to upload. Getting an error message. What should I try?

Yeah, I've been dealing with this exact issue lately. When I tried to upload my ID photo, I kept getting an error that just said "upload failed" or sometimes a timeout after a few seconds. Honestly, I thought the site was down at first. But after testing on different browsers I realized it was tied to the file I was trying to upload. The most common symptom is the progress bar reaching maybe 80-90% and then stopping. Or you get a generic "file too large" kind of message. In some cases the upload just silently fails with no error at all—you hit submit and nothing happens.

What fixed it for me, honestly, was checking the file size first. Most of these upload systems have a hard limit – usually somewhere around 5-10MB. But some are stricter, capping at 2MB or even 500KB depending on the backend. I also noticed that certain image formats cause issues – some sites reject TIFF or BMP even if they're small. JPEG is usually the safest bet because it already has compression built in. To check your file size, just right-click and look at properties if you're on Windows, or get info on Mac.

For compressing it, I use a free online tool or sometimes just open it in Paint and resize the dimensions down a bit – dropping from 4000px wide to 1200px usually slashes the size dramatically. Just make sure you're not losing too much clarity though, because some sites require a minimum resolution for text to be readable. My go-to is to aim for under 2MB and around 100-150 DPI for a standard ID photo size. If you're still getting failures, try converting to a lower quality JPEG setting (like 80-85% quality) before uploading again.

As for prevention, I always keep a compressed copy ready to go. Before you even start the upload process, take a couple minutes to resize and compress your image. I'd also recommend checking the forum's FAQ or sticky threads – sometimes they mention an exact max file size or a recommended tool. And if the problem persists even after compression, it could be a browser issue (clear cache, try incognito mode) or the site's upload system might be down. Hope this saves you some frustration.
