Clear your browser cache and try again

Yeah, I've dealt with this photo upload issue way more times than I'd like to admit. The symptoms are pretty frustrating—like, you click upload, the progress bar just hangs, or you get a generic "upload failed" error with zero explanation. Sometimes it'll even say "invalid file" or "unsupported format" when you're using a perfectly standard JPG that meets all the requirements.

Before you go switching browsers—which is a valid fix, don't get me wrong—there's a few things worth trying first. Clear your browser cache and cookies, since stale session data can cause uploads to fail silently. Also try incognito or private mode to rule out extension conflicts or rogue plugins. Check the file size and dimensions against the site's limits, and make sure the filename doesn't have weird characters like brackets or special symbols. I've seen filenames with emojis or extra periods completely break the upload process.

If none of that works, then yeah, try a different browser. For me, the fix was swapping from Chrome to Firefox—the upload went through on the first try. Some sites just have terrible compatibility with Chromium-based browsers because of how they handle file objects or JavaScript. Edge can sometimes work where Chrome fails, and vice versa. Keep in mind that old browser versions might be missing APIs that the upload script relies on.

For prevention, keep your browser updated to the latest version and try not to run too many ad-blockers or script blockers that might interfere with the file input. Stick with common image formats like JPG or PNG, and if you're resizing images, use a proper tool to keep the metadata clean—I've seen sites reject photos with corrupted EXIF data. If you're regularly uploading to the same site, it might be worth bookmarking their upload page and clearing cookies every so often to avoid session build-up issues.
