Promo code not applying at checkout

If a promo code is not working: verify exact formatting (caps, dashes, no spaces), check expiration date, ensure the code applies to your order type (some codes exclude rush orders or certain states). If all else fails, message vendor with a screenshot and ask them to apply it manually.

Yeah, I've run into this more times than I care to count, honestly. The most obvious symptom is you type in the promo code, hit apply, and get some generic "invalid coupon" or "promo code not recognized" message. Sometimes the code box just stays blank, or the discount doesn't show up in the totals at all. It's frustrating when you know the code should work.

First thing I always check is formatting – and tbh it's almost always the culprit. People swear they typed it right, but one wrong character will kill it. I've seen it happen with zero vs O, lowercase vs uppercase, hyphens vs en dashes, even invisible spaces from copying part of a text instead of the whole string. Some checkout systems are ridiculously strict – they treat "NEW15" and "new15" like completely different codes, so you've gotta match the exact case given. Also, make sure there are no leading or trailing spaces; those are silent killers.

The fix is dead simple: highlight the entire promo code text (double-click the word to grab it), then Ctrl+C / Cmd+C, tab over to the checkout field, and Ctrl+V / Cmd+V. Do not manually retype anything – trust me. If the code still doesn't work after copy-pasting, check that your cart meets any minimum purchase or category restrictions – sometimes the code requires a specific item or excludes sale items. If it's a multi-use code, it might have a limit that's already been hit. But honestly, 90% of the time, copy-pasting solves it.

To prevent this going forward, always copy promo codes directly from the source email or website rather than trying to memorize or transcribe them. I keep a little sticky note app open where I paste codes I'm about to use, so I never accidentally modify them. And if you're on mobile, be extra careful – autocorrect loves to mess with codes. Hope this saves someone the headache I went through the first few times.

Manual application via the vendor is always an option for legitimate codes. Screenshot helps.

Some codes have minimum order requirements. Check the fine print.
