Reading vendor reviews without getting misled

Vendor review quality varies enormously, especially when searching for a high-quality fake id, and some of the highest-rated vendors on popular review threads have the most aggressively managed reputations. Here is how I evaluate reviews without getting pulled in by manufactured consensus.

Recency matters more than volume

A vendor with 200 positive reviews from three years ago and no recent activity may have completely different quality today. Vendors change their production equipment, materials suppliers, and staffing. Template quality for a scannable id representing a specific state can improve dramatically or degrade badly within a year. Reviews older than six months are historical context, not current guidance.

Filter for reviews in the past 90 days first. If there are fewer than five recent reviews for a vendor you are considering, that absence of recent feedback is itself information.

Specificity as a quality indicator

Reviews that describe specific features — "the UV features on the California card look right when checked at 365nm" or "the barcode decoded correctly on a high-end id scanner" — reflect actual examination of a novelty id. Reviews that say "great quality, fast shipping, would order again" reflect a positive experience but tell you nothing about card quality specifically.

If you are researching a specific state template, look for reviews that mention that state and describe the features checked. Generic positive reviews do not tell you whether the Michigan hologram looks correct.

Negative reviews

Vendors with no negative reviews in a long history are not necessarily excellent — they may moderate review threads aggressively or have a system that screens negative posters. A vendor with a 95% positive rate that includes a few honest, specific negative reviews is more trustworthy than one with a perfect record and only generic praise.

When you see a negative review, evaluate whether the complaint is about vendor quality (production issues, incorrect features) or vendor service (slow shipping, slow support). These have different implications for what you can expect from your own order.
