The last-mile delivery — from carrier to your hands — is the point where the least thought is usually spent on security, but it is also where the most visible connection between you and a package occurs. Here is how I approach this.
Home delivery
Standard home delivery to an apartment or house mailbox is the default and works fine in most situations. The connection between the delivery and you is already established by the shipping address. The main concern is package theft if deliveries happen when you are not home, and making sure you retrieve the package promptly rather than leaving it visible for extended periods.
If you use a name for the delivery that is not your legal name — a variant, a middle name, or a pseudonym — the package is addressed differently than your regular mail but still delivers correctly. This creates a minor disconnect in the paper trail without adding any operational complexity.
PO box retrieval
Collecting from a PO box happens at the post office, which is more controlled than a home mailbox. You access a physical box with a key during business hours. The connection between you and the box is the rental contract, which does require some form of identification. The main security benefit is that the delivery address is not your home.
Package lockers and parcel stations
Amazon Locker and similar third-party parcel station networks accept some USPS and carrier packages and hold them for contactless collection. These work for USPS-delivered packages in locations that have enrolled in the program. The collection is done by QR code rather than your name, which is a minor anonymity benefit for the pickup interaction.
Timing matters for all methods: collect packages within a day or two of delivery notification. Packages left uncollected for extended periods attract attention and increase the risk of loss.
