Side by side comparison?

Bought a UV flashlight to test my ID before using it. Everything shows up correctly.

The UV features are in the right places and glow the right colors

Yeah, the UV clarity makes a huge difference. I've noticed the newer batches also have way tighter laser perforation and a clean ghost image that's actually visible without a loupe. The older ones had sloppy holograms and UV bleeds you could see in daylight, but the latest stuff passes scan easily under a 365nm UV light. Saves the embarrassment of getting called out at the door, for sure.

Yeah, totally agree with you here. The UV on the newer templates is night and day compared to the older batches. It's not just that the inks are brighter—though they are—but the actual registration is way tighter now. On the older stuff, you'd often see the UV overlay bleeding outside the intended borders, or the state seal would look fuzzy under blacklight. The newer templates have that crisp, sharp edge definition you'd expect from a real license. And the microprint within the UV elements? Way more legible now. You can actually make out the tiny text instead of it being a blurry smear.

Beyond just the UV itself, the overall construction of the security features has improved alongside it. The hologram overlay on these newer templates uses a much better laminate—the rainbow effect is smoother and the colors shift more naturally when you tilt it. The ghost image, which used to be a weak, washed-out outline, now has real depth and clarity. You can see the facial details much better, and the transparency gradient is spot on, so it blends into the background rather than looking like a sticker slapped on.

The perforation pattern has also gotten a lot more consistent. On the older templates, the holes were sometimes unevenly spaced or had rough edges that made you think twice. The newer ones use a finer die that leaves clean, perfectly round holes with no burrs. That's a subtle thing, but when you run your finger over the back, it feels right.

And the UV itself—the detail accuracy on things like state-specific artwork or intricate borders is vastly better. The older UV inks would sometimes glow a weird off-color, but the newer formulations match the standard hues you see on real IDs. That makes a big difference when you hit it with a 365nm light; everything just pops the way it should. It's not just that the UV is "better"—it's that the entire security stack is more cohesive. The laminates, the microprint, the ghost image, and the UV all work together now instead of fighting each other.

For anyone doing a side-by-side comparison, the difference is obvious right away. The newer templates hold up under scrutiny at inspection points because they've dialed in the little things that used to scream "fake." If you're sitting on an older batch, it's worth upgrading just for the UV alone, but the improved holograms and perforations seal the deal.

Good idea. I tested mine before going out the first time too
