Staying patient through a long vendor delay

My longest order took 47 days from payment to delivery. For about 30 of those days, the only update was silence. Here's what I learned about managing that experience without making things worse.

The first two weeks: just wait

Any order under 14 days from payment hasn't left the normal variance range. Production queues, batch scheduling, and standard international transit can easily account for two weeks without any red flag. Send zero messages to the vendor during this period unless you have a specific factual question. Sending "where is my order" on day 10 adds nothing.

Weeks two to four: one check-in

At the three-week mark with no tracking number, one message is appropriate. Include your order number, the date of payment, and a neutral question about expected shipping timeline. Most vendors will respond with an honest update. Mine told me the state I'd ordered was in a batch that was still being assembled and would ship the following week. It shipped 8 days after that message.

If you hear nothing after messaging

Wait 72 hours after your first message before sending a second. If the second message also gets no response after 72 hours, try an alternate contact channel — Telegram, email, or a public forum thread. Sometimes on-site messaging systems have technical issues. My second message through an alternate channel got a same-day response when the on-site message had been sitting unanswered for a week.

The 30-day threshold

If 30 days pass from payment with no tracking number, explicitly ask about your reship or refund policy. This isn't aggressive — it's the standard window most vendors use as the basis for their guarantee. Asking the question at 30 days is appropriate, not premature. State the facts: payment date, no tracking number, and ask what their process is at this point.
