Thinking of switching vendors - pros and cons

Current vendor is fine but not exceptional. Considering switching. The hesitation is that I have history with this one and know what to expect. Switching means starting the trust-building process over.

So I've been sitting on the fence about switching vendors for a while now, tbh, and I figured I'd throw my thought process out there to see if anyone else has been in the same boat. The original post hit the nail on the head — known quantity vs unknown upside is a real tradeoff, and it really comes down to how much better the alternative might be. But I think there are a few more layers to unpack, especially if you're like me and you've been using the same source for a couple of years.

Let me break down my current situation first. My existing guy has been solid — orders land in about 10-14 days after payment, which is pretty standard for international. Communication is decent, usually a reply within 24-48 hours, nothing lightning fast but reliable. Packaging has always been stealth enough for my comfort: vac-sealed inside a bubble mailer, with a discrete return address and some basic decoy paperwork. Nothing fancy, but it's never raised any red flags. The pricing is fair — not the cheapest, but for the consistency I've been okay with it.

Now the new vendor I'm eyeing has been getting some buzz around here. Faster shipping claims (5-7 days), better customer service (same-day replies supposedly), and prices that are about 15-20% lower on the same items. That's a pretty tempting upside, honestly, especially if the quality matches. But there's the unknown — I've seen a few reviews mentioning that the packaging isn't as stealthy, one guy said his package was just a regular envelope with no padding, which makes me nervous about damage and customs. Communication speed is reportedly hit or miss once you place the order — some people get quick responses, others wait days. That's a gamble I'm not sure I want to take.

When I think about value for money, my current vendor scores maybe a 7.5/10 — decent product, okay turnaround, fair price. The new vendor could be a 9/10 if everything goes smoothly, but could also be a 4/10 if the stealth is shit and the shipping takes three weeks with no replies. That's the risk. I've been burned before by a "too good to be true" switch, and it's tough to rebuild trust once you've lost a package or had bad communication.

Staying means zero learning curve, predictable timelines, known stealth, and responsive support when I need it. The downside is higher prices, no room for improvement, and I'm stuck if the quality ever drops. Switching could give me potentially better everything — lower cost, faster turnaround — but I'd be gambling on unknown stealth quality, the risk of poor communication, possible delays, and losing my history with the current vendor. I think I'm leaning toward giving the new guy a small test order — something cheap and simple — to gauge the real communication speed and packaging stealth without risking too much. That way I can compare the full timeline and VFM without fully committing. But yeah, the known vs unknown tradeoff is real, and it's not just about price — it's about security, reliability, and peace of mind. Curious to hear how others have handled this switch.

I switched vendors once and it was absolutely worth it. Quality jumped significantly.

What specifically is the current vendor lacking? That context matters.

Try a single test order from the new one before fully committing.
