Utah ID design and security features

Utah driver's licenses have a distinctive design that makes them one of the more visually identifiable state IDs in the country. Here is what the current generation looks like and what to verify when inspecting one.

Visual design

The current Utah license uses a mountain landscape panorama as the background image — the Wasatch Range is the dominant visual element. The design is horizontally oriented and uses a warm color palette with rust and tan tones complementing the landscape imagery. The state name and beehive symbol (Utah is the Beehive State) appear prominently.

The card uses a white or light-colored data panel on the right side for the cardholder information, which contrasts sharply with the landscape imagery. This two-zone layout — landscape on the left, data panel on the right — is specific to Utah and immediately distinguishable from most other states.

Holographic features

Utah licenses use a state-outline OVD hologram. Under tilted light, the hologram reveals the Utah state shape with "UTAH" text repeating within the design. Color shift should move from gold to green across a standard tilt arc. The hologram coverage extends over both the photo zone and the data panel.

UV features

The back of the card carries more UV features than the front on the current Utah design. Under 365nm UV, the state seal and a background pattern appear distinctly. The barcode area on the back is surrounded by UV-reactive border elements that are invisible under normal light.

Common vendor issues

The landscape background is the most frequently botched element on vendor cards. The color saturation and the specific mountain imagery need to match the genuine card. Vendors who use a generic landscape image rather than sourcing accurate Utah mountain artwork produce cards that read as wrong instantly to anyone familiar with the genuine design. Ask for sample photos that show the background imagery under normal light before ordering.
