UV light test results?

Bought a UV flashlight to test my ID before using it. Everything shows up correctly.

The UV features are in the right places and glow the right colors

Yeah, totally agree with this. The UV on newer templates is night and day compared to what was around even a year or two ago. I've been comparing my current IDs with some older ones I had, and the difference is huge. The older ones had UV that looked kinda washed out or had a weird blue tint that made it obvious under a blacklight. Now the colors are much more accurate — the reds and blues actually look like the real thing, not some cheap glow-in-the-dark sticker.

I've spent some time checking the UV details under a high-powered LED blacklight, and the fine line work is so much sharper. The state seals, DOB formatting, and those tiny background patterns are all crisp. On the older templates, the UV would often bleed or the registration would be off, so you'd see a faint glow outside the intended area. That's pretty much gone on the newer ones. The ink seems to be more precisely applied, and it has a better saturation without being too bright or too dim. Also, the hidden UV text that you can only see at certain angles is more legible now — on some old ones it was just a blurry smear.

This ties into the hologram overlay construction too. A lot of the newer templates have the UV features embedded right into the overlay or the laminate, so it's harder to peel or scratch off. The ghost image on the overlay also looks cleaner, with the UV elements aligning properly so you don't get that double-vision effect. The ghost image clarity itself has improved — the half-tone dots are finer, and the overall image doesn't look pixelated. That makes a big difference when someone inspects it under UV because the whole thing looks cohesive.

As for the perforation pattern, I've noticed that the newer templates have more consistent hole sizes and spacing, and when you hit them with UV, the edges of the perforations don't glow or look ragged. The old ones sometimes had a halo effect around the holes under UV, which is a dead giveaway. Now it's clean — the perforations just let the UV light through cleanly without any weird refraction.

Haven't run them through a scanner myself, but based on what others have shared, the newer UV patterns scan correctly on standard readers. The UV is not too bright that it would set off any alarms, but it's bright enough to be convincing under a casual blacklight check. I think the improvements in material quality and printing techniques are what really make the difference. The UV ink itself seems to have a better chemical composition — it doesn't fade as quickly under normal light exposure, and it reacts more consistently under UV.

Overall, if you're on the fence about upgrading from an older template, the UV alone is worth it. Just make sure to check the specific details for your state because some are more complex than others. But yeah, the progress in UV fidelity is real — it's one of those things that used to be a weak point and now it's actually a strong selling point for the newer batches.

Smart to test first. Which state did you get?
