Website not working?
Try a different browser if it keeps failing
Make sure its under the file size limit. Try compressing it
Yeah, I've run into this exact issue before. Honestly, the most common symptom is that the website either shows a broken image icon, or the upload just silently fails without any error message. Sometimes you'll see a "file not accepted" or "invalid file type" popup, but other times it just hangs on a loading spinner.
First thing to check is the file format your browser or the upload form is spitting out. Right-click the offending image, open it in a new tab, and look at the URL. If it ends in .png, that's your culprit. A lot of older websites—or even some newer ones using outdated image processing libraries—just don't play nice with PNG's alpha channel or the extra metadata. And PNGs can be way larger than JPEGs for photographic content, which can hit file size limits that aren't obvious.
The fix is pretty straightforward: just convert your image to JPEG. Open it in any basic image editor—I personally use GIMP because it's free, but even Paint on Windows works. Export or Save As with the .jpg extension. Make sure to set the quality to around 85-90% to keep it looking good while cutting the file size. If your original PNG had transparency, you'll have to add a solid background color (usually white) because JPEG doesn't support transparency. Without that, the transparent area will show up as black or checkerboard in the JPEG, which might look weird.
For prevention going forward, get into the habit of checking a website's upload requirements before you start. A lot of forums and ID ordering sites explicitly state "JPEG only" or "Max 2MB" in their FAQ. Also, if you're creating images yourself, start in JPEG format unless you specifically need transparency for overlays. That way you avoid the extra step of converting later. And always keep a copy of the original PNG locally in case you need to tweak it again—seriously, don't just delete it after converting.
Clear your browser cache and try again
