posted by foemur 1 year ago 1,047 views 5 comments
Complete guide to paying with Bitcoin safely: **Recommended Wallets:** - Coinbase (beginner friendly) - Electrum (advanced users) - Trust Wallet (mobile) **Payment Process:** 1. Get exact BTC amount from vendor 2. Send from personal wallet (never exchanges) 3. Include order ID in transaction memo 4. Screenshot transaction details 5. Wait for confirmations (usually 3-6) **Vendor BTC Acceptance:** ✅ All major vendors accept BTC ✅ Most prefer it for anonymity ✅ Often 5-10% discount for crypto **Pro Tips:** - Send slightly extra to cover network fees - Use fresh addresses for each order - Keep transaction records for disputes

Yeah, the test transaction rule is a lifesaver. I learned that one the hard way too – lost a decent chunk of change to a single typo and honestly, I've never made that mistake since. Even with vendors I trust, I'll still send a tiny test first. It's just a good habit – takes two minutes and saves you a world of pain. Oh, and always check your fees before sending. Nothing worse than a stuck transaction.

tbh, fee optimization is the biggest thing people miss. I always check mempool.space before sending and wait for low traffic times. Also, that test transaction tip is clutch – saved my ass once when I fat-fingered an address. Stick to SegWit wallets and never pay over 20 sat/vB unless you're in a rush.

Nice write-up. I've definitely been burned by network fees before, so now I always check mempool.space before sending and wait for off-peak times. SegWit wallets are a must too—honestly, it's kind of a no-brainer. On escrow, couldn't agree more: multi-sig is the only way to go. Too many folks lose money just skipping that step.

Yeah, OP nailed it with Electrum—I've been using it for years myself. One thing I'd add: always use a segwit address (starts with bc1) to save like 30-50% on fees. And seriously, don't ever skip escrow, even if the vendor seems legit. Test with a tiny amount first. Quick and dirty rule: check a fee estimator before sending, aim for low-to-medium unless you're in a rush. Stay safe.

I'd honestly go with Monero if the vendor accepts it – the fees are way cheaper and the privacy is way better than BTC. And seriously, never send directly from an exchange to the vendor – always use your own wallet first. That alone saves you a ton of headaches.
