Converting gift cards to crypto for vendor payments

posted by officialboy 1 day ago 86 views 0 comments

One of the more private ways to acquire crypto without creating a bank trail is converting gift cards to cryptocurrency. It is not widely discussed but it is a real option that works. Here is how.

Where to trade gift cards for crypto

Paxful and LocalBitcoins both have active gift card markets where sellers accept gift cards (Amazon, Walmart, GameStop, Google Play) in exchange for Bitcoin. The seller sends you crypto after you provide the gift card code; the platform holds the crypto in escrow until the card is verified. Rates are typically 70 to 85 cents on the dollar — you lose 15 to 30% in the exchange, which is the premium for the privacy and cash-equivalent nature of the trade.

Which gift cards trade best

Amazon and Walmart gift cards have the highest liquidity and the best rates because they are widely useful and easy for sellers to verify. Niche gift cards for services like Steam or iTunes trade at worse rates because fewer sellers want them. Denominations of $25 to $100 trade most efficiently; very small denominations sometimes have minimum order requirements.

Process step by step

Buy a gift card with cash at a physical retail store. Do not register the card if registration is optional. Go to Paxful, find a seller accepting your card type, initiate a trade for the amount you want in BTC or XMR. Follow the escrow process — provide the card details after the seller confirms, wait for verification, receive crypto to your wallet. The whole process takes about 30 minutes once you know the flow.

Converting to Monero

If your vendor accepts Monero rather than Bitcoin, swap the received BTC to XMR using a non-KYC swap service like FixedFloat or SideShift after receiving it. This adds one step but the end result is Monero purchased with essentially no paper trail connecting it to your identity.
