Depends on network congestion. Usually confirmed within a few hours

Yeah, checking the blockchain explorer is step one, but there's more to getting it right the first time. When you send BTC to a vendor, you need to watch for the transaction to have at least one confirmation. Some vendors credit your order as soon as it's seen in the mempool (unconfirmed), but most wait for at least one confirmation — that can take anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours depending on network congestion and the fee you attached.

Speaking of fees, don't just use the default fee your wallet suggests. If the network is busy and you use a low fee, your transaction could get stuck for hours or even days. I usually check a site like mempool.space to see what fee rate is recommended for the next block. You don't need to overpay, but don't cheap out either — saving a couple bucks on the fee isn't worth missing a deadline. Also, some wallets let you bump the fee later if needed (RBF), which is a lifesaver.

Escrow is a big one. If the vendor offers escrow through a trusted third party or a marketplace, use it. Never send directly to a vendor's personal wallet unless you've built a history with them. Even then, escrow gives you recourse if something goes wrong. The fee for escrow is usually a small percentage, and it's worth every cent for peace of mind.

Hidden fees can sneak up on you. Watch out for vendors who advertise a low base price but then add "processing fees" or "priority handling" at checkout. Some even charge extra for certain crypto payment methods — for example, they might add a surcharge for BTC vs. a different coin. Also, double-check the exchange rate they use if you're paying in fiat equivalent — sometimes they mark it up 5-10% above market rate.

Pricing context: most good vendors charge somewhere in the range of $100–$200 per ID depending on quality and features, but don't quote me on that — it varies a lot. You generally get what you pay for. If the price seems too good to be true, it probably is, and you'll just end up losing your BTC.
