Two different models exist for using a third-party address for package delivery, and they have different characteristics worth comparing before choosing.
Home forwarding services
Some forwarding services operate from residential addresses rather than commercial warehouses. The package is delivered to a real home address, received by the service operator, and forwarded to you. This creates a delivery experience that looks like ordinary residential mail rather than a commercial shipping operation.
Advantages: the delivery address looks residential, which may be harder for automated systems to flag than commercial addresses. The operator handles packages personally, which can mean more careful handling of delicate items. Disadvantages: smaller scale means fewer addresses available, slower throughput in some cases, and more variability in reliability depending on the individual operator.
Warehouse reshipping
Commercial reshipping warehouses provide a physical commercial address — often a suite in a business park or mail center. Packages arrive at a staffed facility, are logged, and forwarded. These operations are more scalable and often provide better tracking and notification systems.
Advantages: professional operation, consistent procedures, better technology for notification and confirmation. Disadvantages: the commercial address is identifiable as a reshipping facility to anyone who knows to look, and some high-volume commercial reshipping addresses are flagged by carrier systems as higher-risk destinations for international packages.
Which to use
For most purposes, a reputable commercial warehouse reshipping service is more reliable and consistent. The "residential looks more legitimate" advantage of home forwarding is marginal compared to the operational reliability difference. What matters most is the domestic forwarding leg after the international package arrives at the reshipping address — domestic USPS delivery of a reshipped package looks identical regardless of whether the origin was a home or warehouse.
The warehouse reshipping advantage becomes more significant for buyers who order multiple items from different vendors simultaneously. A warehouse service can consolidate multiple incoming packages into a single outbound shipment, reducing total shipping cost and the number of separate delivery events at the final address. For one-off single purchases, the home forwarding simplicity wins; for regular multi-vendor ordering, the warehouse consolidation economics often favor the commercial service.
