Litecoin for vendor payments — faster and cheaper

posted by cumandstuffisfun 3 months ago 452 views 0 comments

Switched to Litecoin for my last two orders of a scannable id after getting frustrated with Bitcoin transaction times during a period of network congestion. The difference was significant enough that I want to share the comparison.

The Bitcoin congestion problem

Bitcoin's confirmation time is usually 10 to 30 minutes under normal network conditions, but during periods of high transaction volume the unconfirmed transaction pool fills up and transactions with lower fees sit waiting. I had one Bitcoin payment wait six hours before the vendor's required minimum confirmation count was reached. During that time I was not able to track whether the payment had been received or was lost.

Litecoin in comparison

Litecoin block time is 2.5 minutes — four times faster than Bitcoin. Transaction fees are consistently lower, typically $0.01 to $0.03 per transaction regardless of network load. Confirmation times rarely exceed 15 minutes even during busy periods because the Litecoin network has consistently lower congestion than Bitcoin.

Most vendors that sell a fake id and accept Bitcoin also accept Litecoin. If yours does not, it is worth asking whether they would add it — the technical requirements for accepting Litecoin are nearly identical to Bitcoin and many payment processors handle both automatically.

Getting Litecoin

Litecoin is available on most major exchanges including Coinbase, Kraken, and Binance. The purchase process is identical to buying Bitcoin. Withdraw to a self-custodied wallet before paying the vendor for your novelty id — the Litecoin Core wallet or Electrum-LTC are solid options. Cake Wallet also supports Litecoin alongside Monero.

Privacy note

Litecoin has the same transparency properties as Bitcoin — all transactions are public on the ledger. For privacy, Monero remains the better option. But for pure speed and transaction cost, Litecoin is meaningfully better than Bitcoin and nearly as private from a practical perspective.

One additional note: Litecoin transactions are fully transparent on their public ledger, the same as Bitcoin. Privacy-conscious buyers who need both speed and confidentiality should use Monero. For everyone else, Litecoin is the practical middle ground between Bitcoin speed issues and Monero setup complexity.
