Ordered 3 weeks ago, still no tracking - should I be worried?
Yeah, three weeks with no tracking is definitely that zone where you start checking your email twice a day, but honestly it's still well within normal range for these orders, especially when there's a holiday season wrapped around it. I've seen it take a full month before anything pops up on the tracking portal, so you're not alone.
First thing to keep in mind is that a lot of vendors don't generate tracking the second they pack the label. Sometimes they batch shipments and only upload the numbers after they've dropped everything off at the courier hub. And depending on which courier they're using — which varies a lot by region — that initial scan can take a few days to show up. If they're relying on something like YunExpress, Yanwen, or even direct DHL eCommerce, the first scan might not happen until the parcel reaches a major sorting center, which could be a thousand miles from where it started.
Transit hubs are another wildcard. Packages from overseas often go through a regional consolidation center first, then get flown to a gateway hub like LAX, JFK, or Chicago O'Hare. That's usually where you'll see the first real tracking event — "Processed Through Facility" or something similar. But if it's the holidays, those hubs get slammed and scanning can be sporadic. I've had orders sit at "Origin Post is Preparing Shipment" for over two weeks before suddenly showing up at a US hub.
Packaging durability is something to consider too. If the vendor uses a padded envelope or a basic poly mailer, the label might get smudged or torn in transit, which can delay the scan. Some of the better shops use Tyvek or double-layer cardboard, which holds up better in the mailstream. But either way, a delayed first scan doesn't mean the package is lost — it just means the courier hasn't registered it yet.
Customs can also add to the wait time. If your order is coming from outside the country, it might sit in customs for a few days to a couple of weeks, especially when staffing is thin around the holidays. CBP doesn't always scan every single inbound parcel immediately, so the tracking might stay silent until it clears.
So overall, your shipping-speed assessment here is basically: three weeks pre-tracking is on the long side of normal, but not an outlier. Give it another week — if you hit a full month with absolutely nothing, that's when I'd start asking the vendor for a reship or a refund. In the meantime, stay off the refresh button and let the system do its thing.
