Package says delivered but nothing was there

Happened to me on my fourth order. Tracking showed "Delivered - Front Door" at 2:47 PM and there was nothing at my apartment door when I checked at 5 PM. Here is what I did and how it resolved.

First steps

I waited until the next morning before doing anything. Occasionally "delivered" events get logged a few hours early or for the wrong door in an apartment building. The package showed up at a neighbor's door the following morning — the carrier had left it one door down. So if this happens to you, check with neighbors before escalating.

If the package genuinely did not arrive

After 24 hours with no package found, I would contact the vendor. Most have a missing package process: they will ask you to wait a specific number of days (usually 7 to 10 from the delivery scan) before they initiate a trace or offer reshipping. This is annoying but it is the standard process. Carriers allow a brief window for delivery scanning errors to resolve before treating a package as missing.

You can also file a missing mail search request directly with USPS if it was shipped via USPS. This does not recover packages often, but it creates a record and occasionally turns up a package that was misdelivered and returned to the facility.

What not to do

Do not file a USPS claim immediately — this escalates the situation in ways that can draw more attention to the package contents. Do not demand reshipping from the vendor within 24 hours of a delivery scan. Both approaches create friction without being useful that early.

My vendor reshipped after 10 days of confirmed non-delivery. The replacement arrived without issue. The original package was never located. The whole process took about three weeks from the false delivery scan to holding the replacement card.
