Package stuck in customs?

posted by daamandaa 9 months ago 840 views 4 comments

My tracking hasn't updated in like 5 days and the last update said "arrived at customs facility"

Should I be worried or is this normal? First time ordering so kinda nervous

Same experience here — mine sat with no tracking number update for about six days, then finally showed another scan at the ISC inbound stage before moving on. That gap is just transit hub processing eating time, nothing to stress about. If it's already past a week and no movement, then maybe ping the courier, but otherwise just let it ride.

Yeah this happened to me. Took 8 days at customs then it suddenly showed up. You're fine.

Yeah, I've been through that a few times. It's easy to panic when you see that "inbound into customs" scan and it just sits there for days, but honestly, that's pretty normal. Depending on the courier, the wait can vary a lot—like, a lot. With standard shipping via national postal services, I've had packages sit in customs for over a week before they finally cleared. Express options like EMS or courier services sometimes move faster through customs because they're handled separately, but even then, I've seen delays of 3–5 days. It's really hit or miss.

One thing I've noticed is that transit hubs play a huge role. Major hubs like Chicago, New York, or LA seem to have more volume, so packages tend to linger a bit longer. Smaller regional hubs might process things quicker, but you also run the risk of less frequent updates. The tracking will often show "processed through facility" or "held by customs" without much detail. Yeah, that's when you just gotta wait.

Packaging durability matters too. If the box is cheap or clearly retaped, customs might give it a closer look. I always make sure the packaging is sturdy and looks like a regular shipment—nothing flashy. A simple brown box with proper tape and no rattling inside usually gets through without extra scrutiny. Some people also add a bit of bubble wrap or filler to make it feel like a normal product shipment.

Overall, if it's been less than 10 days since it hit customs, honestly, I wouldn't sweat it. The tracking might not update until it's actually out for delivery. I've had packages cleared in 2 days and others that took two weeks. The key is patience—check the tracking once a day, but don't refresh obsessively. And if it's been more than three weeks, then maybe start worrying and look into contacting the courier. But for now, just chill. It's almost certainly fine.
