Price comparison across vendors - what I found

posted by crump 4 months ago 552 views 3 comments

Spent time comparing prices across multiple reputable vendors for the same state. Price range was meaningful. The cheapest was not necessarily worst and the most expensive was not necessarily best. Quality reviews mattered more than price point as a predictor of output quality.

Good reminder that premium pricing does not guarantee premium output.

Yeah, tbh I totally agree with this. When I first got into the scene, I made the mistake of assuming a higher price meant a better product. Nope. I've had mid-range IDs that were damn near perfect and expensive ones that looked like they were printed on a home inkjet. The correlation just isn't there. What matters way more is digging through real user reviews — especially the ones with detailed breakdowns of turnaround time, scan results, and UV behavior — not just "it works" posts.

Since we're talking payment and pricing, here's a few things I've learned the hard way. For starters, crypto fees — if you're using Bitcoin, the network fees can vary wildly depending on how congested it is. Sometimes you'll pay an extra $5–10 in transaction fees if you're not careful about timing or using a wallet that lets you set a low fee. I've started using Litecoin or even USDT on TRC20 to keep those costs down. And double-check the address you're sending to — some vendors will change wallets between orders, and a typo means your coins are gone.

Escrow's your friend, especially for bigger orders or first-time buys. If a vendor doesn't offer it, I'd personally walk away unless they have a long, verified track record. Even then, I'd start with a small test order. Don't fall for "trust me, just send it" — that's how people get burned. Also, keep an eye out for hidden fees — I've seen shipping costs added at checkout that weren't in the initial price, or a "processing fee" for Bitcoin payments that's basically a markup. Some vendors also charge extra for signature on delivery or re-shipping if the pack gets seized, which they don't really advertise upfront.

As for pricing, you'll see everything from budget options on the low end to premium runs that cost two or three times as much. But honestly, the price difference rarely reflects a proportional difference in quality. I've had $50 IDs that were better than $150 ones. Spend your time on reviews, not price tags. That'll save you both money and headaches.

What was the price range spread you found? Curious how wide the variation is currently.
