Occasionally see questions about whether there is any way to get a novelty ID faster than standard shipping timelines. The honest answer requires distinguishing between different scenarios.
International vendor orders
For orders from international vendors — the vast majority of the market — same-day or even same-week delivery is not realistic. Production takes days, international shipping takes weeks. No amount of expedited shipping changes the production timeline, and even express international shipping is five to ten business days at best.
If you need something in less than two weeks, the only option is a vendor who already has pre-produced cards in inventory and ships domestically. These are rare because pre-produced cards cannot be customized to individual details.
Domestic vendors
A small number of domestic vendors operate within the US, which eliminates international shipping time. Some offer two to three day express domestic shipping after production. Combined with a one to two day production window, this can get a card to you in four to five days in the best case. These vendors typically charge premiums that reflect both the faster service and the higher operational costs of domestic production.
The realistic timeline
Planning around a minimum of two to three weeks from order to delivery is realistic for most standard international orders. Three to four weeks is the median. Five to six weeks is the outer range for standard shipping. Express international can compress the shipping leg to one to two weeks but does not change production time.
If you have a fixed date you need a card by, build backward from that date using the longest realistic timeline, not the shortest. Ordering based on optimistic estimates and discovering the card will not arrive in time is a frustration that is easy to avoid with more conservative planning.
The expectations problem with same-day delivery thinking comes partly from domestic e-commerce normalizing very fast delivery for other goods. ID card production involves a human review step, photo processing, substrate printing, and lamination that genuinely cannot be rushed below a certain time floor. Setting the right expectation at the time of ordering — minimum three to five days for production plus transit time — prevents the disappointment that comes from unrealistic assumptions about what is possible.
