USPS forwarding messed with my stealth package

FYI if you set up USPS mail forwarding, it can mess with stealth packages. Tracking for my order bounced between two cities after the forwarding kicked in and the expected delivery date keeps extending. Vendor shipped last week and the label now says forwarded. Anyone had this happen and still receive it? Debating canceling the forwarding request.

Happened to me once. It arrived five days late but the stealth was intact. Maybe let the vendor know so they are not wondering why tracking stalled.

Update: I called USPS and they said it is still headed to me but through the forwarding center. Crossing fingers.

If you can, put a temporary hold instead of a forward next time. USPS treats holds differently and does not reroute the package mid-trip.

Tell your roommates not to return any weird forwarded mail. I had one sent back by mistake when someone marked it as not mine.

Yeah, I had this exact same thing happen with a recent order. I used USPS 'cause it's usually the most discreet for domestic, but I had mail forwarding set up from an old address. That forwarding process added a solid 3 to 5 days – probably more like four for me. The tracking actually showed it sitting at a regional distribution center for an extra day before it got rerouted, which I wasn't expecting. Normally with standard USPS Priority it moves through two or three hubs max, but with forwarding it hit an additional sort facility and honestly, that's where the delay really stacked up.

When the envelope finally landed, the packaging looked like it had been through a war zone. The cardboard was creased in a couple spots and the corners were pretty beat up. I think the extra handling from the forwarded routing just put more miles on it – more sorting machines, more human hands, more chances to get squished in a mail bin. If you're using a thin bubble mailer or a flimsy poly bag, that extra trip could easily tear or dent the contents. I've started reinforcing the inside with a stiff piece of cardboard or an extra layer of craft paper to give it some spine, and that's been helping keep things from getting crushed.

As for customs, since this was domestic forwarding I didn't have to deal with that, but if it were coming from overseas, an extra few days in customs plus the forwarding reroute could double the wait. Overall, the shipping speed was still acceptable – it arrived, just later than expected and looking a little roughed up. If you know you've got forwarding active, I'd recommend upgrading to a sturdier mailer or even opting for a different courier that lets you update the address mid-transit. Just my two cents after dealing with that headache.
