When reshipping goes wrong — documented cases

Reshipping services add a buffer between the international shipment and your home address, but they are not without failure modes. After using three different services over two years, here are the scenarios where things broke down.

Package held at facility

On one occasion, a package arrived at the reshipping facility but was flagged by their internal system as requiring review. The facility held it for four days without notifying me. When I checked the status on their portal, it showed "pending review" — a status I had not seen before. After contacting support, I learned their automated system had flagged the package because the declared contents were vague. I clarified the contents and it was forwarded the next day. Lesson: check the reshipping portal actively rather than waiting for notification.

Wrong forwarding address

I had a package forwarded to an old address because my account had not been updated after a move. The reshipping service used the address on file at the time of forwarding rather than prompting me to confirm. The package was returned to the facility after a failed delivery. The service forwarded it again to the correct address after I updated my profile, but this added 10 days. Lesson: verify your current delivery address in the reshipping account before every forwarding request.

Facility's package gets seized

One documented scenario I have seen reported by others: the reshipping facility itself receives scrutiny from law enforcement related to its operations, and packages in transit at the facility are affected. This is rare but represents a risk that does not exist with direct delivery — if the reshipping service has legal issues, packages in their custody can be caught up in those issues regardless of the package contents. Using reputable, established reshipping services with long track records reduces but does not eliminate this risk.
