Anyone else experiencing the ticket price inflation?
Man, I feel this so hard. I just tried to grab tickets for a show next month and the face value was already pretty steep, but then you get to checkout and it's like, oh cool, another 40% just because. It's not even just the service fees anymore—they've got "facility fees," "order processing fees," sometimes even a "convenience fee" for the privilege of printing the ticket myself. What convenience? I'm doing all the work. Honestly, it's wild.
I swear it wasn't this bad a few years ago. Back then it was maybe 15-20% on top, and you could usually avoid the worst of it by going to the box office in person. Now even the venue's own website tacks on charges. I tried buying directly from a band's presale link once—thought I'd beat the system, you know? Still got hit with a "dynamic pricing" surcharge because the algorithm decided demand was high the second the link went live. It's absurd.
And don't get me started on the secondary market. I know some people flip tickets for a living, but seeing a $50 GA ticket listed for $200 plus another $50 in "buyer protection" fees makes me want to just stay home and watch a live stream. At this rate, between the fees and the scalpers, I'm starting to think the only way to win is to know someone in the band or get lucky with a lottery.
Pre-sale alerts and knowing when to buy helps. Prices often drop closer to the show if it is not selling out.
General admission floor is always the best value for the experience you get.
Concert ticket prices this year are significantly higher than a couple years ago. Service fees on top of already inflated base prices make it brutal. Still going to concerts obviously, but the cost per show has gotten real.
