Bouncer interaction stories - good and bad
Here's one that went well, but I've got both kinds. The good one was at a dive bar near campus — bouncer was this huge dude, honestly looked like he'd seen it all. He took my ID, glanced at it, then just stared at me and said, "Alright, name all the starting pitchers for the [state's MLB team] from the 2010 season." I froze for a second but then rattled 'em off — I'm a huge baseball nerd and that stuff lives rent-free in my head. He laughed, said "Nice, you're either from there or you're really committed," and handed it back with a nod. Let me right in, no hassle.
On the bad side, I've had the opposite too. One time a bouncer at a club just glanced at the date on my ID, squinted, and said "This doesn't feel right" — wouldn't tell me what was wrong, just shook his head and waved me off. No quiz or test, just a vibe call. Felt like he was having a bad night and took it out on me. Kinda frustrating when you know your stuff is solid but you still get turned away for no real reason. That's the game though — sometimes you get the sports trivia champion, sometimes you get the guy who's already made up his mind.
Attitude matters at the door as much as documentation sometimes. Seen people turned away for being rude.
Most bouncers just want to do their job and move the line. Be pleasant and make it easy for them.
Thread for sharing notable door interaction stories. Not necessarily about any specific situation, just interesting dynamics at the entrance to venues. What have been your most memorable bouncer encounters?
