Best state ID for West Coast?
Yeah, totally agree. If you're looking for a West Coast state that doesn't get picked apart right away, Oregon and Washington are both solid choices. California's honestly a nightmare right now — everyone and their mother has a real CA ID, so bouncers and TSA know exactly what to look for. Even the best fakes get extra scrutiny just 'cause they're so common, tbh.
So let me break down why Oregon and Washington stand out. First off, Oregon's latest design has some really clean microprint on the front, especially around the "OREGON" lettering and the state outline. It's sharp enough that you'd need a loupe to tell if it's fake. The UV response is pretty good too — under blacklight you get the correct state seal and some ghost images, but the brightness is a bit muted compared to a real one. Still, it passes the casual bar check. The OVI (that color-shifting ink on the state name) shifts nicely from green to copper, but the transition can be a little sluggish on some batches. The card material itself has that nice polycarbonate feel — rigid but with just a tiny bit of flex, not flimsy at all. I'd give Oregon a solid 8/10 overall for West Coast use.
Washington is even better in a few ways honestly. Their microprint is super precise — take a look at the "WASHINGTON" text on the back, the tiny repeated "WASHINGTON" in the border, and even the small state outline on the front. All crisp. UV response is where Washington really shines — the whole front lights up with the correct layout, including the state seal and those little wavy lines. The brightness is spot-on, not too dim, not glowing like a highlighter. OVI on the "Washington" text on the front shifts from gold to green really smoothly. Card feel is identical to genuine WA IDs — matte finish, good weight, and that subtle texture from the laminate layers. If you get a good batch, it's easily a 9/10. The only knock is that if you're trying to use it in-state, locals might be more suspicious, but on the West Coast outside of WA, it's golden.
As for California? Hard pass unless the person has zero options. The sheer number of CA fakes out there means every detail — from the microprint on the gold bear to the UV tree and the precise shade of blue — gets scrutinized to death. Even a perfectly made CA ID will get looked at for an extra five seconds just because everyone assumes it's fake. Honestly, not worth the risk.
So yeah, stick with Oregon or Washington if you're on the West Coast. Both have great microprint accuracy, solid UV response (WA has the edge there), decent OVI, and a convincing card feel. Oregon gets an 8/10, Washington a 9/10 in my book. California would maybe be a 6/10 at best even with a flawless copy just because of the scrutiny.
I use an Oregon ID in Portland with zero issues. Quality matters more than the state though
Thanks! Will look into Oregon vendors
Moving to Seattle soon and need to get a new ID.
What states work best on the West Coast? CA seems too risky tbh
