Michigan vs Wisconsin - Which is Better for Midwest Users?

posted by chrispolk 1 year ago 1,318 views 5 comments
Living in the midwest and trying to decide between MI and WI for my next order: **Michigan Advantages:** - More recognizable design - Used by many vendors (familiarity) - Good security-to-difficulty ratio - Available from most major vendors **Wisconsin Advantages:** - Less commonly faked (lower scrutiny) - Simpler security features - Good value from most vendors - Unique design stands out less **Vendor Availability:** **Michigan Available From:** - IDMaster Pro ($80) - Global ID Network ($70) - Premium Cards Co ($75) - SecureID Solutions ($65) **Wisconsin Available From:** - Canada ID Express ($60) - North American IDs ($65) - Budget ID Solutions ($45) - FastTrack IDs ($70) **Community Input Needed:** Which would you choose and why? Looking for practical experiences from midwest users. Factors I'm considering: - Regional acceptance - Vendor quality for each state - Security feature complexity - Overall value proposition

Honestly, I've had both from Global ID Network, and Michigan's the clear winner. UV and OVI are spot-on, and the card feel is pretty much identical to a real one. Wisconsin's UV is off, plus it feels way too plasticky. For Midwest use, Michigan's less expected in neighboring states too. I'd go Michigan every time.

Yeah, agreed on Wisconsin. The polycarbonate feel is a total game changer—way stiffer and more real than Michigan's PVC. UV's easier to match too, and honestly the microprint holds up better. Plus everyone's got Michigan or Illinois, so Wisconsin kind of flies under the radar more. Just don't skimp on the UV and material—that's the make-or-break.

I've tried both myself for Midwest use, and honestly, WI is the more consistent play. The simpler microprint, UV, and OVI just mean less chance of messing something up. MI's polycarbonate and detailed UV look great when a vendor nails it, but that's pretty rare—too many slip up on one detail or another. If you need reliability across state lines, go with WI. But if you ever find a vendor who gets MI right, it's a gem.

Totally agree. I've used both a ton around the Midwest, and honestly, Wisconsin is just the smarter play. Michigan is way too common—every bouncer around here has seen a hundred of them. WI flies under the radar. If the microprint and UV are done right, it slides through pretty easily. I'd take a solid WI over a so-so MI every time.

Good write-up, man. I've had both and honestly, I'd say WI is the stronger pick for the Midwest. That thicker card plus the UV/OVI combo? Feels way more legit under bar lights. My WI from Canada ID Express has held up way better than the MI ones I've seen, tbh. If you're ordering, I'd go WI all day.
