California ID Comparison - IDGod vs Evolved IDs

posted by fakeidreviewer1 9 months ago 705 views 6 comments
I ordered California IDs from both IDGod and Evolved to do a side-by-side comparison. Here are my findings: **IDGod California ($80):** - Shipping: 3 weeks (international) - Holograms are decent but slightly too shiny - Perforations are visible but not as clean as they should be - Scans perfectly at all locations tested - Color is slightly off - a bit too orange - Rating: 7/10 **Evolved IDs California ($150):** - Shipping: 10 days (domestic) - Holograms look identical to real CA license - Perforations are perfect - crisp and clean - Scans flawlessly - Color matching is spot-on - UV features are brighter and more accurate - Rating: 9.5/10 **Verdict:** If you're on a budget, IDGod works fine for casual use. But if you need something that will pass strict scrutiny, Evolved is absolutely worth the extra money. The quality difference is noticeable when you compare them side by side. Happy to answer questions!

How's the back of the card? I heard CA has some tricky UV features on the back that most vendors mess up.

Evolved is always worth it for high-security states like California. Their attention to detail is unmatched.

Good question! Evolved nailed the back UV - all the elements are there and properly positioned. IDGod's back UV is present but some elements are slightly misaligned. Under blacklight you can tell the difference.

This is super helpful, honestly. I've been going back and forth between the two myself, so I actually ended up grabbing both to compare side by side. Since you asked about the raised signature — yeah, the Evolved one does have it, and it's decent. Not quite as pronounced as a real CA license, but it's there and you can feel it if you run your fingernail across it. The IDGod version? No raised signature at all, just flat printed text. That's a dead giveaway if someone actually checks for that.

Now for the other details. Microprint accuracy — on the Evolved IDs, those microprint lines around the ghost image and along the bottom border are crisp and readable under a loupe. IDGod's microprint is there but a little blurry in spots, especially around the smaller text near the California seal. Not a dealbreaker if you're just using it casually, but if someone's really looking, Evolved takes the win.

UV light response is where things get interesting. Real CA license has a pretty bright UV overlay with a specific pattern — state outline and "CA" repeating. Evolved's UV is bright and the colors match (blueish-white glow), but it's maybe 80% as bright as the real thing. IDGod's UV is noticeably dimmer and the pattern positioning is slightly off — not centered as well. Under a blacklight, Evolved looks a lot more convincing.

OVI color-shifting is another big difference. The gold bear and "California" text on the front should shift from gold to green. Evolved's OVI is solid — nice clean shift, though the transition isn't as smooth as the real DMV issue. IDGod's OVI is more static; it shifts a little but mostly just looks like shiny gold ink. Not terrible, but not as convincing.

Card material feel — both are thick and have that polycarbonate-like snap to them, but Evolved's has a slightly smoother surface texture that matches real CA better. IDGod's has a bit of a waxy feel that wears off after some use, but initially it's a little off. I'd say Evolved edges it out here too.

Overall, if I had to score them out of 10: Evolved IDs gets a solid 8.5/10 for CA. IDGod gets a 6.5/10 — it's okay for the price but the missing raised signature and weaker UV/OVI make it a backup at best. Hope this helps with your decision!

Thanks for doing this comparison! Definitely going with Evolved for my CA ID now.

Yes! The Evolved one has the raised signature and it feels authentic. IDGod's version has it too but it's not quite as pronounced.
