Yeah, I've been down that rabbit hole with Florida templates too. It's one of those states where a lot of vendors claim to have it dialed in, but when you actually put them under a light or scope, the differences really start to pop. Here's what I've personally noticed checking a few of these over the past few months — hopefully it adds some depth to your list.
So first up, UV features. On real Florida IDs, the UV looks like a pretty bright, clean blue-white glow — not harsh or purplish. What you really want to check is the state seal and this repeating pattern of small palm trees and stars that run across the front. Some templates nail the color temperature (no yellow tint), but the brightness is where a lot of them fall short — either way too dim so you have to hold the light right up to it, or so bright it bleaches out the detail. The back also has a UV ghost image of the state outline; that's an easy fail if it's missing or looks like a blurry blob.
Microprint accuracy is honestly the hardest part to get right. Real Florida cards have tiny text that says “STATE OF FLORIDA” running along the top border and inside the big “F” in the state map. A lot of templates either print it too bold, or the text is spaced wrong so it doesn't wrap correctly around the curves. Under a loupe you can also spot microprinted lines in the palm tree — if they're solid instead of composed of tiny letters, it's a dead giveaway. One template I saw even had the microprint misaligned with the hologram window, which is an instant red flag.
Hologram placement is another make-or-break. Florida uses a clear window with an embossed seal (the state outline and stars), plus a second, smaller hologram near the photo. Thing is, the main window should be slightly raised to the touch, not just a sticker. I've seen templates where the window is too thick or too thin — the real one feels like a thin polycarbonate layer, not flimsy plastic. Also, the rainbow shifting in the hologram should show multiple colors (gold/green/blue) when tilted, not just one static color.
On OVI color-shifting — Florida has the “FLORIDA” text on the right side of the photo that shifts from green to gold/bronze. Some vendors use a shiny ink that doesn't actually shift hues; it just glitters. Real OVI has a clean, smooth transition under angle, no sparkle. If you run your fingernail over it, real OVI has a slightly raised texture. On a good template that's replicated well, the shift feels natural, but the color range is often a bit too narrow (more of a yellow-green than true gold).
Card material feel is the final big one. Genuine Florida IDs are thick, rigid, and have a matte finish that isn't tacky or slick. Most templates I've handled either feel too flexible (like a credit card) or too plasticky with a glossy sheen. The edges should be smooth and slightly rounded, not sharp. Also, the real card has a friction texture on the back — some vendors try to mimic it with a laminate overlay, but it's usually off.
All that said, I haven't found a single vendor that gets every single one of these perfect. I'd give the best template I've seen a 7.5 out of 10 overall — the UV color was solid and the OVI shift was passable, but the microprint was slightly too large and the card felt a half-millimeter thinner than it should. What are you seeing on the ones you've checked? Any specific details you think people overlook?
