Florida vs Georgia - which is smarter for southeast use?

Yo, great question. I've been messing with both FL and GA templates for a minute now, specifically for use in the southeast corridor (think ATL to Charlotte down to JAX), and I've got some pretty solid notes on the recent batches I've handled. Let me break this down for you.

First off, the Florida U21 template is currently the king of innovation in this category, but it's a double-edged sword. The latest FLs are printed on that thick polycarbonate material that feels almost like a credit card—super rigid, zero bend. It’s a dead giveaway to someone who handles real ones if they start flexing it, because real FLs are actually a softer, more flexible PVC. The UV on the FL is actually pretty decent now. The main state seal and the "FLORIDA" text glow a vibrant, almost neon yellow-green under a 365nm light. The brightness is there, but the microprint on the new ones is where they usually trip up. Look at the "SUNSHINE STATE" line across the front—the real deal has razor-sharp, perfectly spaced microprint inside the letters that looks like a solid line to the naked eye but is clearly legible text under a loupe. Most current versions have that line looking a bit "fuzzy" or the microprint bleeds together. Also, the OVI (color-shifting ink) on the "Florida" script is tricky. Real ones shift from green to a deep copper/gold. I’ve seen too many reps shift from green to a bright orange or fail to shift at all, which is an instant fail.

Now, Georgia has been the sleeper hit for the Carolinas for a while, but the new vertical "Star Card" (the REAL ID compliant version) is a whole different beast. The material on the GA is still a good, sturdy PVC layering. I’d give it a 7.5/10 for feel; it has that matte, slightly waxy finish that the real DMV ones have. The UV on GA is actually easier to replicate to a passable degree. The state capitol building outline and the peach graphic glow a bright, consistent orange-yellow. No weird chemical smells or dim patches. The microprint on the GA is a lot simpler—it’s mostly around the edge of the photo and in the peach. It's easier to get right because the pattern is less complex than FL’s. The big tell on GA is the OVI. The peach itself is supposed to have ink that shifts from a metallic red to a deep gold, or sometimes green on the newer dates. A lot of reps just print a static red. If you’re going GA, you absolutely need one where the peach color shifts.

For your location in the Carolinas, honestly? GA is the smarter move. FL is so aggressively scanned by bouncers in that region because everyone and their mother has a fake FL. It’s a high-risk profile. GA is common, accepted, and the template (if you get a good one) hides the flaws better. The GA microprint won’t be scrutinized as heavily as the FL microprint. My overall scores based on recent experience: Florida gets a 7/10 (high risk but better features if perfect), Georgia gets a 8.5/10 (safer, fewer immediate tells). Stick with the Georgia. Just make sure the OVI peach shifts, the UV is bright, and the height/weight info on the back uses that specific sans-serif font. Good luck, man.

I'd go with GA for SE use every time. Less chance of messing up the UV or microprint, and the simpler template just holds up better in hand. FL can look nice, don't get me wrong, but I've seen too many get busted on little details. If you just need something that works for basic checks, GA is honestly the safer bet.

Yeah, I've used a GA one in Charlotte too and it worked perfectly. Honestly, it's a solid middle-ground option compared to FL—kind of less risky for southeast travel, at least in my experience. If you're bouncing between states, GA just feels safer to me, y'know?

Yeah, both are solid, no doubt. For southeast use though, honestly I'd lean Georgia—just feels more regional, and you're less likely to get a second glance if you're hopping around nearby states. Not that there's anything wrong with Florida, but a GA ID just blends in better down here, at least in my experience.

Yeah, that's a solid point. Honestly, I've noticed FL IDs get a ton more attention just because everyone's so familiar with the look. If you're staying in the southeast, I'd lean toward GA—less likely to draw a second glance, you know? Plus, that raised text on FL is a pretty common fail point.
