Florida vs Ohio - need advice
Oh yeah, I totally get what you mean about the location thing. Ohio definitely gives off more of a "I'm from a neighboring state" vibe when you're in PA, and that can buy you some leeway. But honestly, I've handled a bunch of both Florida and Ohio replicas over the years, and there's a lot more to think about than just geography. I'll break down some of the common differences I've noticed in quality — because a bouncer's gonna be looking at the physical details way more than where you say you're from.
First off, **microprint** — Ohio IDs usually have microprint on the front around the photo and in the state seal, and it's a real pain to get right. Most copies I've seen either have it too bold or completely blurry. Florida's microprint is in different spots, like the birthday line and the outline of the state, and it tends to be a little easier to replicate cleanly. Still, if the microprint is even slightly off, an experienced bouncer will notice it under a loupe — especially on Florida since it's so common and they know exactly where to look.
As for **UV light response** — Florida's UV is really distinct. The state outline glows in a bright greenish-yellow with "FLORIDA" and some sun rays, and the brightness is pretty intense. A lot of fakes I've seen either have a dim or uneven UV, or the color is off (more blue-green instead of that true neon green). Ohio's UV is more subtle — stars and "OHIO" scattered across the front, usually a lighter blue color. If you're going to a place with a UV scanner, Ohio might pass easier just because it's less bright and less scrutinized. Florida's UV is so iconic that if it's not spot-on, you're cooked.
**OVI color-shifting** is another big one. Ohio's OVI is on the state outline in the top right, shifts from gold to green. I've honestly seen some good color shifts on Ohio copies, but sometimes the transition is too slow or the colors are muddy. Florida uses OVI on the state outline too, but it shifts from gold to a copper-ish orange. The problem is that Florida gets checked constantly, so any hesitation in the color flip or weird texture will get you called out. Ohio's OVI is a little less commonly tested, so as long as it's decent, you're probably safe.
**Card material feel** — Florida IDs are made of a thicker, more rigid teslin composite, and they have a noticeable laminate overlay that feels slightly rubbery and thick. A lot of fakes end up too flimsy or too stiff, and the laminate doesn't have that same peel-resistant feel. Ohio cards are also a composite but slightly thinner and more flexible, almost like a credit card. If you order an Ohio fake that's too rigid, it's immediately sus. In hand, Florida is trickier to get the right weight and flex — it's a very distinct "Florida feel."
So overall, if you're in PA and want to blend in, **Ohio is probably the safer bet for casual use** — less common, less scrutiny, and easier to pass the basic feel test. Florida is a double-edged sword: super common so you'd think it's the go-to, but because of that, every bouncer knows every detail. I'd give **Ohio a solid 7/10** for a decent replica (assuming the OVI and microprint are good), and **Florida a 6/10** just because the margin for error is tiny and the UV gives people away too often. That's my two cents — let me know what you end up going with.
Go with Ohio imo. Better choice for East Coast and less likely to get questioned
Appreciate all the responses! Think I'll go with Ohio
I used a FL in Philly with no problems. Just make sure it has good UV and perfs
I live in Pennsylvania and can't decide between getting a Florida or Ohio ID.
Which one scans better? I mostly need it for bars and clubs in Philly area.
