How to check Virginia UV prints

posted by ispy 1 day ago 149 views 0 comments

Virginia ID cards have UV security features worth knowing how to evaluate, and I've run enough vendor cards through UV testing recently to write up what actually separates good production from poor production on this specific state.

What the genuine VA DL shows under UV

Under 365nm UV light, Virginia licenses show a state-themed pattern invisible under normal light. The pattern includes a version of the VA state flag imagery and a repeating text overlay across the card body. Fluorescence is blue-white on the current card design. There's also a UV-reactive element in the signature zone — the signature box has a UV border that fluoresces distinctly from the surrounding card area.

Note on equipment: I use both a 395nm flashlight and a dedicated 365nm lamp. The 395nm light shows UV features but with lower contrast and bleed. For accurate comparison to what verification tools see, 365nm is the right choice. All results below are from 365nm testing.

PremiumFakes VA card

Background UV pattern is present and covers the card body correctly. The imagery is less defined than genuine — under 365nm, genuine shows clear outlines on the state flag element whereas PremiumFakes shows a blurred, low-contrast version of the same area. The repeating text overlay is faint enough that individual words aren't readable under UV without magnification. Signature zone UV border is present and correctly positioned.

EvolvedIDs VA card

Background UV pattern is sharper than PremiumFakes. The state flag element is distinguishable under 365nm without magnification. Text overlay is still faint but more legible. Signature zone UV border present and correctly positioned. Best VA UV rendering I've seen across current vendor production.

FakeYourDrank VA card

Background UV is present but very faint — at 365nm it's nearly invisible except in a completely dark room. The signature zone UV border is absent entirely on my card. I only have one FakeYourDrank VA card to test, so this may be a batch-specific issue rather than a systematic production gap.

For evaluating a VA novelty card under UV: start with the signature zone border as the quickest binary check, then assess background pattern sharpness in the flag imagery area. EvolvedIDs is the vendor I'd point to for current VA UV quality.
