Massachusetts 2025 template check before I reorder
Yo, just wanted to give a quick update on the Massachusetts 2025 template I've been messing with before I pull the trigger on a reorder. The main thing I noticed, honestly, is that halo effect around the PDF417 barcode on the back — that's usually a dead giveaway of over-lamination. But honestly, if it still scans clean, you're probably good to go. Mine had that halo too and it worked fine at a club last weekend, even under a scanner. No issues.
Since you're thinking about reordering, here are the finer points. First off, the microprint — check the tiny text around the state seal and the border lines. On my copy it's actually pretty crisp, not smudged or broken, though I did notice the text inside the circular seal is slightly thicker than what you'd see on a real MA ID. Not super noticeable unless you're really looking with a loupe. UV response is decent but not perfect — under a blacklight the state outline glows a bit unevenly. It's mostly bright blue but there's a darker patch near the bottom that doesn't pop as much. The OVI color-shift on the gold state seal is okay; it goes from a light yellow to a coppery orange when you tilt it, but the shift isn't as dramatic as the real deal. Still passes the casual flip test though.
For me, the card material feel is where this template kind of falls short. The thickness is about right, but the surface has that slightly waxy, too-smooth finish that feels different from a real MA card. Real MA IDs have more of a matte, almost tactile surface, especially around the edges. Laminate edges are also a hair too shiny. That halo on the barcode came from the lamination pressing a little too hard, leaving a visible ring. I'm going to ask for a thinner laminate next time or specify a different lamination setting.
Overall, I'd give this version a 7/10. It's functional, scans, and passes a quick glance, but the UV inconsistency and the too-smooth material feel are the main callouts. If the reorder can tighten up the UV brightness and get the lamination right, it'd be an easy 9, tbh. Hope this helps you decide before you pull the trigger on another order.
