Michigan ID Review - New Template Analysis

Just received my Michigan ID from a vendor (won't name them publicly but DM if interested). Wanted to share a detailed review since MI updated their template recently. **PROS:** - Hologram looks legit, very reflective - Barcode scans perfectly on BCS app - Colors are accurate compared to my friend's real one - Feels right thickness-wise **CONS:** - UV could be slightly better - The microprint on the back is a tiny bit blurry if you look closely with a loupe **Overall:** 8.5/10 - Would recommend for casual use but maybe not for super strict places. Anyone else have experience with Michigan IDs? How do they compare to other midwest states?

Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana are all solid choices for midwest states. I personally prefer Wisconsin because the template is simpler and less can go wrong.

I got a Michigan too from a different vendor and had the same experience with the microprint. Seems like that's a common issue across vendors. Still works fine though.

Nice write-up! Honestly, I've been diving deep into Michigan templates lately, and I gotta echo what you said – it's one of the easier states to pull off. The security features are there, but they're not as complex as, say, Illinois or Ohio. Those two are real headaches with their embedded elements and overlapping layers. But Michigan? It's like a solid B+ student – gets the job done without too much fuss.

About the UV – I actually tested mine with a 365nm light, not just going off appearance. The state outline and the "WOLVERINE" text pop in a nice bright white-blue, maybe a bit cooler than a real one under UV. On good reps I've seen, the brightness holds up well, but some cheaper copies have the UV bleeding around the edges or the text coming out fuzzy. The microprint along the top border and near the photo? Gets overlooked sometimes – the real deal has super crisp, tiny lettering that spells out "MICHIGAN" on repeat. On the templates I've handled, the microprint is usually 80-90% accurate – the spacing gets a little off if you really zoom in, but with the naked eye it passes.

Another point – the OVI color-shift on the front seal. Real Michigan IDs shift from a coppery gold to a kind of olive green depending on the angle. The replica I have does the shift, but the transition isn't as smooth – it jumps between the two colors rather than blending. Still, honestly, under casual lighting it fools most people. The card material itself is a good middle ground – not as flimsy as some PVC fakes I've seen from other states, but not quite the rigid thickness of a genuine Michigan. It feels a tad lighter in hand, but that's nitpicking. The lamination is decent – no peeling after a few months of light use.

All in all, I'd give this Michigan template a solid 8 out of 10. The UV and microprint are close enough for in-state use if you're careful, and the material feel is passable. Illinois and Ohio are still trickier – their OVI and microprint tolerances are tighter, so you gotta be way more selective with those. But for a first try or a backup, Michigan is a smart pick. Did you also check the raised text on the birth date? That's another spot that trips up a lot of reps.

Yeah I used a UV light I bought on Amazon. The UV elements are there but they're slightly dimmer than they should be. Still passes casual inspection though.

Great review man. The detail about the microprint is helpful. Most people don't check that closely anyway but good to know.
