Michigan vs Wisconsin - Best option for Midwest?

posted by tucker 10 months ago 765 views 6 comments
I'm in college in Illinois and trying to decide between Michigan and Wisconsin for my fake ID. I know the general rule is to pick a nearby state but not your home state. Both MI and WI seem like good options. From what I've read: - **Michigan:** More complex security features but harder to fake well - **Wisconsin:** Simpler design but very common among fakes (might be more scrutinized?) Anyone in the Midwest have experience with either? Which one gets less scrutiny from bouncers? Also open to other nearby state suggestions if there's a better option I'm not considering.

Most top vendors have solid Ohio templates. Check LuxuryFakes or FakeYourDrank. Both have good OH reviews.

So I've been using a Wisconsin ID here in Chicago for a while now, and honestly it's been solid. People always talk about how common Wisconsin is in the Midwest, but in my experience if the ID itself is well-made, bouncers don't really care about the state. It's more about whether it passes the basic checks. Yeah, it's common, but that actually works in your favor – they aren't suspicious of the state itself, they just look for the quality markers. If those are right, they wave you through.

Microprint accuracy: On the Wisconsin I have, the microprint lines around the state seal and the birth date are pretty crisp. Under a loupe you can see the tiny text is legible – no blurring or smudging. That's one thing that usually trips up fakes, but this one holds up. I compared it to a friend's real Wisconsin and the microprint is close, maybe a tiny bit thicker but not noticeable without magnification. The fine line patterns on the ghost image and around the photo window are also well-defined – no broken edges or strange gaps. That kind of detail is where a lot of cheaper IDs fall apart, but this one passes the closer look.

UV light response: The UV overlay on the Wisconsin ID is spot on. Under blacklight, the state outline and "WISCONSIN" text glow a bright blueish-white, and the small stars in the background are evenly distributed. The brightness is good – not too dim that it looks dead, not so bright that it's obviously fake. Some cheaper fakes have UV that's too neon or patchy, but this is consistent across the whole card. The UV also has that slightly matte finish under light, not a glossy sheen that screams inkjet. I've honestly tested it under a few different blacklight setups at bars and it always hits the right shade.

OVI color-shifting: The OVI on the front – the big "WI" and the year – shifts from green to gold depending on the angle. It's smooth, no sparkles or weird rainbow effects. The color change is gradual and matches what I've seen on real ones. That's a big plus because a lot of fakes get the OVI too sparkly or the shift happens at weird angles. I've tilted it under different lighting – bar lights, sunlight, dim club lighting – and the shift is consistent. The registration on the OVI is also tight; it doesn't bleed over into the background like I've seen on some other states.

Card material feel: The card itself has that right PVC feel – not too flimsy, not too thick. It bends slightly and snaps back, similar to a real driver's license. The front and back have the same texture, no glossy spots. Lamination seems even. I've honestly had it in my wallet for months and it hasn't delaminated or got sticky edges, which is a good sign for the heat press quality. The edges are smooth, not sharp or rough where layers can separate. Some fakes have a weird tackiness or a slight give when you twist the card, but this feels about 95% like a genuine DMV-issued one.

Overall I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10 tbh. The only thing keeping it from a 9 or 10 is that the microprint is maybe a hair off if you really scrutinize, and the UV could be a tad brighter. But for everyday use in bars and clubs around Chicago, it's never been questioned. If you're considering Michigan vs Wisconsin for the Midwest, I'd probably say go with whichever has the better quality from your source. Both are common but as long as the details are right, you're fine. Wisconsin works for me and if you're in a nearby state, it blends right in.

I'd avoid Wisconsin tbh. Way too many fakes out there. Go with Michigan or Ohio for sure.

Didn't think about Ohio. That's a good point. Which vendors do Ohio well?

Michigan is harder to get right but if you go with a good vendor it's worth it. Less common than WI so stands out less.

Have you considered Ohio? Super easy template for vendors to replicate and doesn't raise suspicion in Illinois.
